Re: Clicky Poll: You and your SO fertility

  • Unless you've had more than one kid, or have infertility, I don't see how you could possibly know this.

I did get pregnant on the first try, but the next time could take much longer, no way to know.

  • i was convinced i was unable to get pregnant.

ive had two serious relationships one was for 6yrs. i was 14 and it ended when i was 21yrs old. we werent always safe when it came to sex. but no baby. not that i wanted one that young. but still..

the relationship im in now (4yrs), we didnt always play it safe. only in the beginning of our relationship we did. as it got serious and marriage was in talk, we started to not be so safe. but still nothing. until last year. we werent trying. but as ive said, we were not not trying..

as a pp said, there really is no way to tell because im sure it can be different every time, but or me, average seemed about right? (i had tests done and i was fine. so did my guy, and he checked out fine) but i had one. and no more or me..

This is what I was thinking, I also got pregnant during our first month trying but I have PCOS so next time it could take a while.

  • It took 7 cycles of charting with 24 cycles of prior charting to avoid so I knew what my cycles were like. DH has a son from a previous relationship that was not planned (but it was also 19 years ago so a teenagers sperm is quite different from a near 40yr olds! lol)
  • It took us 3 years to get pregnant with our oldest son.  We were convinced it would never happen for us.  When we were ready to have a second baby, we started when our first was just 15 months old thinking it would take us forever to get pregnant again.  It took us a month.  Thinking it was a fluke, the 3rd time around, we started trying thinking it would take 6 months or longer...I was pregnant that month.  Now though, my Dr says that it would take a really long time, if ever for me to get pregnant again if I wanted it.  She is surprised I ever got pregnant in the first place with what my ovaries look like.  She says though it was going on BCP is what normalized my body so that I could get pregnant and I never knew there really was something wrong with me.  When it took 3 years to get pregnant, I had never been on BCP before.

I fall into the more than one kid category.  And I've had 4 (1 m/c) surprise pregnancies for which there was a type of b/c being used 3 of the 4 times. I am damn fertile.

  • I chose SS.

We really still aren't sure if we have a fertility problem.  I lean towards yes.  With me, I have had cysts and an ovarian tumor removed.  I had an ectopic pregnancy.  So my left ovary and tube are pretty screwy.  My husband had his hormone levels checked once routinely because he was so tired and he was found to have a testosterone deficiency.  He was immediately put on HRT.  A semen analysis was ordered and it came back very very bad.  However, we found out later that this was due to him being HRT-that stops sperm production (his urologist was pretty bright). He was put on Clomid and we got pregnant right away with the baby that was in my tube.  We terminated.  Then eight months later, after him not being on any meds for two months, I got pregnant with Isla.  This was all over a span of three years.  We started trying in 2007.  Right after my surgery.

So yeah.  We may have a fertility problem.  I don't know if my ovary functions well or if my tube is pretty scarred up.  We don't know what his sperm count is like without HRT.

  • DS: 2 forms of BC that failed.

    1 second tri loss

    2 more m/c

DD1: ART  baby conceived 27 months after the prior m/c.

M/c when DD1 was 12 months, and again 2 months later (twins)

DD2: conceived first month trying after 2nd m/c (if that makes any sense.) Stick out tongue

^ This. I only have 1 LO. We plan to try for our 2nd in a few months. Maybe I can answer better then.

  • Thanks everyone for your answers.

  • I'm a speshul snowflake:)

We're actually very fertile. It was the staying pregnant part we needed help with. One m/c, one confirmed c/p, and possibly two unconfirmed c/p's before I got pregnant with DD. I needed 8 weeks of progesterone therapy to make that happen.

At my dating u/s with Bridget, the doctor said that my corpus luteum cyst had prematurely collapsed, meaning that if I wasn't on progesterone, I would have lost her too. That makes me shudder everytime I think about it.
