Trying to Get Pregnant

No Ovulation, is this forever?

I am 25 and have been ttc for 2 months. My cycles have been long (36 days) so I went to the Dr. to find out why. Turns out I am not ovulating (blood test confirms). She is suggesting that I start clomid next month (50mg) and do IUI. I have a 2 part question:

1. Can ovulation come back on its own eventually, or once its gone, its gone?

2. Has anyone had any luck on clomid or heard good stories?

I am really scared we will never have  a baby.

Thanks!

Re: No Ovulation, is this forever?

  • First of all 36 days isn't long. I've had cycles that were 72 and 98 days long.

Second, if there is an underlying issue preventing you from O'ing, then it can "come back" but you may have to take meds, change diet, etc. It all depends on why you aren't ovulating. Did the doc give a possible reason on why you aren't ovulating? I have PCOS, so that was the reason I don't ovulate on my own.

However, it is possible and normal for you to have an anovulatory cycle once in awhile. Did they check both times/cycles for ovulation? Do an ultrasound?

There are a lot of ladies that respond to Clomid. I would try asking on the tri boards since they are already pregnant.

  • She did blood tests and can rule out thyroid problems, early menopause, etc. She did an ultra sound and said everything looks really good. She said she didn't have a reason why I was not ovulating. I did just get married and was under a lot of stress a few months ago, as well as I have Rheumatoid Arthritis but she didn't seem to think that was it either. The clomid recommendation made me think that ovulation would never return. She started talking 3 cycles of clomid, 1 IVF and then no babies.Scary!

I will try those other boards too, thanks!

  • Your cycle can be a little messed up for a few months after birth control. I'm actually a little taken back that after only 2 months she would already try clomid. Hope it works and you get to move to 1st tri soon!

  • 1. You need a new dr.

    2. When did you get off bcp?  It can take a year or even longer to regulate after bcp.

    3. You need a new dr.

    4. Two months?  Completely bypassing the IF testing after two months issue, everything came back fine.  There is zero reason to be discussing clomid, iui, ivf, infertility in general.

    5. You need to educate yourself.

    6. You need a new dr.

Fuuck TTC - I'm moving on.

I use Safari so I can't insert icons. I thought this would do the trick instead.
