Trying to Get Pregnant

Chemical pregnancy and ovulation

I recently had a chemical pregnancy (miscarried at 4wks 4 days).  I am still waiting for my beta level to return to zero.  My doctor said that we can try again after a regular cycle.  I know everyone is different but can a chemical pregnancy affect when you next ovulate?

Re: Chemical pregnancy and ovulation

  • Everyone is different, but here is my experience.  After my c/p, I ovulated on CD 22.  I usually ovulate around CD 17.

I am sorry to hear about your chemical pregnancy.

Edited to add: My next cycle, I ovulated on CD 17, as usual.

So what is the actual difference between a cp and mc?  Does it depend on how far along you are or if it is before or after AF is expected?

My doctor referred to it as a chemical pregnancy because it was so early in the pregnancy and the fertilized egg didn't implant into the uterus.

It depends on how far along you are.  A chemical pregnancy is a miscarriage that occurs before a gestational sac shows up on an ultrasound.

  • I'm not sure if I had a c/p or a m/c, but my cycle returned to "normal" the next month.

  • This is my first cycle post-C/P.  You can check out my chart link below.  O was a few days late, but spotting continued a few extra days of AF too, so I think that's why it was late.  I am sorry for your loss and disappointment.  It is hard even that early.  I hope your cycles return to normal quickly and wish you good luck TTC again.

    Sounds like I had a c/p then..

  • I had a chemical pregnancy in July (also at 4w4d).  We just got on with TTC right away and I got pregnant again right away.  I ovulated on CD 16, so it was a normal cycle and so far everything looks healthy with my pregnancy.

    Good luck!
