Trying to Get Pregnant

What's the board verdict on Dollar Tree tests?

I went grocery shopping this morning and my grocery store was literally OUT of pregnancy tests except blue dye tests. So I stopped in next door at Dollar Tree and picked up 5 (Embarrassed) tests.  Do these things actually work? At $1 piece I have my doubts.....??

Does anyone know what all the TTGP 8DPO BFPers use? Geeked

Re: What's the board verdict on Dollar Tree tests?

  • I got my best results with EPT at 10dpo and an obvious BFP at 11dpo.

  • I think the verdict is, yes they work, but you might want to follow up with a digital if you get a BFP.

As for all those lucky early testers, I think it was First Response Early Result.

I dug through shelves of tests looking for some and they were all sold out!! If I see a hint of a line I will go out and buy FRER.

...oh who am I kidding I will probably go buy some tonight because now I am convinced I will be pregnant and won't get a positive test very soon and I will hate that. lol

  • I was using IC, my $ store line was so light I wouldn't have believed it without the back up of the other tests. After the + on those, I got a FRER to confirm! Good luck!

  • From my understanding, they work just as well. I also *think* they are pretty sensitive.

  • I have heard that they work well, but not as early as FRERs...

Am I the only one who doesn't test early?? I don't see the point. I have always planned to wait until 14 DPO, but have never made it that far without AF...

  • I got a VERY faint line on a $ Tree test at 14 DPO, and confirmed with a digital.  But then I had blood work and my HCG was only 31.  Digitals pick up HCG as low as 25, which is generally about the very first day it could be positive, like 9-10 DPO.  The $ Tree was able to pick up just about the same in my case.  Unfortunately, mine ended in a m/c at 18 DPO.  =(     To answer your question, though..... I would definitely trust $ Tree tests, as cheap as they are.

  • I bought 5 from there on Friday and took one that day and this morning, both negative, but that doesn't mean they don't work well. Although, I secretly hope they don't...Wink

I have never tested before a missed period. I plan to keep it like that too Smile BFN's are too depressing!

I admire people that can wait. I am just not one of the patient ones. I am POAS crazy I can admit it.

  • Ok I did a little research and the $ store tests detect levels of 50 mIU/ml hCG and above. So they are not for early result testing, as you wouldn't have enough hCG.This was on pregnancy.org:

    Hope it helps!

Week from the Last Menstrual Period (LMP) Amount of hCG in mIU/ml
    3 5 - 50
    4 4 - 426
    5 19 - 7,340
    6 1,080 - 56,500
    7 - 8 7,650 - 229,000
    9 - 12 25,700 - 288,000
    13 - 16 13,300 - 254,000
    17 - 24 4,060 - 165,400
    25 - 40 3,640 - 117,000

I just looked at my box and it says 25 mIU/ml. Maybe they changed the tests? I don't know.

BUT...... I was being so impatient that I just tested with a 4 hour hold and I am sure I see the faintest pink line.  I cannot wait to wake up in the morning and test with FMU!!!!

The inside of mine says 50, maybe they're not the same kind. That's so exciting though! I'm so happy for you! Keep us updated!!!

They actually pick up WAY less than 25- with my son I got a + with a digital and the next morning my Beta was less than 10, like 9 or something.  The nurse said I must have conceived like the day before.  LOL  I got a + with an Answer and a digital and - with just about everyother brand, including FRER and $ store.

Now THAT would be record!  7DPO?  I really hope it you can follow up with another BFP tomorrow.

If so, you should totally market yourself for HPT advertising, lol.
