I know this is something that can make people uncomfortable to think about, but how are you choosing a legal guardian for your child should you and DH pass away? DH and I are setting up an appointment with JAG to update his will and make mine, and we need to figure out who to appoint as a guardian.
If we go with who will be the best strictly financially, his brother is our #1 choice. However, his brother also has 3 children already.
My sister is another choice, but they are just not financially and emotionally ready to take on a child. I know that will change though.
I would like to appoint my parents, but they are not going to be young forever. They're both 59 now and in great health, but what if the need arose for them to take over guardianship 10 years from now?
I also have 2 friends who I would be comfortable with, but I really would prefer a family member.
