Do you still work to keep your license active or will you have to re-take the boards when you start working again? I was thinking of this when we were discussing me being a SAHM.

No! Never do you retake boards. Generally speaking states have requirements to stay active (completing continuing education credits and paying for active license). I moved from Ohio to Indiana and my OH license (where I took boards) transferred without retaking boards.
I am an RN with a Master's Degree in Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I graduated last may and still no job.... I am teaching pediatric clinicals for Ivy Tech which SUCKS but pays well.
DH is a mechanical engineer.
Me: corporate communications manager and freelance tech and copy writer. I am going part-time at my job in July so I can focus more on freelance and stay off my feet a bit more for the babies though.
DH: medical device sales (cardiology)
me: High School Spanish teacher
DH: Best Buy manager (his schedule SUCKS)
me: Middle School At-Risk Teacher. I get all the kids that are in trouble or have horrible home lives. Very glad that school will be out this week.
DH: Product Coordinator for Quad Graphics. He makes sure his plant has all the pages they need to print magazines, ads, ect.

me: I have a degree in Horticulture but SAH with DD#1, took a retail banking position for IF health benefits and I plan to SAH with #2....but I stay active in the horticulture industry still.
Hubs: Has a degree in Vet Med but owns an auger boring company...it's a specialized form of underground construction (ie: if a new water/sewer/storm sewer needs to be installed on the other side of an interstate-he drills/jacks pipe underneath because it's not possible to shut the interstate down, dig it up and intall utilities)
Me: Front office/Receivables for a small business.
BF: GM for Firestone
Me: Interior designer at a commercial architecture firm.
DH: Athletic trainer at a private high school, planning (& hoping) to go to school next fall to become a Physician Assistant.
