I like the sound of Vincent Edward better but maybe it's more meaningful to name him after Grandpa? Personally, I like names that are meaningful AND sound good.

I like Vincent Edward.  And I think Vince is a cool nickname.

Yes, the full name is formal, but Vince 'van Hamden' doesn't sound overly formal to me at all.
