I didn't know people were this stupid

I work in the office for a cable construction company. I just received a call from one of our crews saying that they left a piece of equipment on the side of the road, in the right-of-way, while they went to lunch. When they returned, it wasn't there. They heard the machine running, so they followed the sound. The person who lives in the house at that address go on the machine, drove it around back, and started tearing down old trees and vines and stuff. He said "It was parkedon my property, so I figured I could use it." I really didn't know people were that stupid. One, if a construction company leaves something on your property, that doesn't give you the right to use it. And two, it's the right-of-way, it's not your property. It's amazing how many people don't know that their property line ends before you get to the road and the county owns the rest of it. I thought it was common sense.

Anyone else have funny stories of crazy people they have to deal with at work?

  • Totally OT - did you go to Athens Tech & get the 3D done (if I remember correctly, you were going to do it at 27 weeks). How did they do?
  • Way too many to tell (I do family law and criminal defense work)!  My favorite most recent excuse for possession of meth was that the client was narcoleptic and couldn't get or didn't have their regular meds, so they had the meth instead...ummm, anyone see a problem with the logic there?!?!?  I advised them having narcolepsy was absolutely NOT a defense to possession of meth!
  • LOL, nice!  sigh, where to start...I work in accounting and marketing and have actually had someone (mind you this is an adult doing the accounting for one of our companies) ask me if .10 was ten cents?  SIGH......

  • "I did so stop at the stop sign." Um, no you didn't, the wheels never stopped moving.

"I am not parked, officer."  Um, yes you are, your car isn't moving......

"You are violating my rights!"  Um, which rights are those?  You kind of sacrificed those when you decided to drive dunk.

    Shall I go on?

  • This isn't that funny but I used to work at a title company.  We sent a customer a sheet to fill out their information. Under the section for numbers, we had H for home and W for work.  One person filled out 5 10 and 180.  We were confused until we realized they thought that H meant height and W meant Weight.  We couldn't stop laughing.  Why would a title company need to know someone's height and weight?
  • I couldn't even begin...........I used to work for an air cargo company and wanted to wear a shirt to work that said "If idiots could fly this place would be an airport"

Yes, I did go! They turned out pretty good, LO didn't want to roll over during the 2D part (she was face down), then she kept her hands in front of her face for the 3D. But the tech was really sweet and did great! I'm planning on going back and getting it done again, hopefully LO will cooperate this time!

  • OMG I know! I work at an apartment complex, and as an amenity we offer free wireless internet for every resident. So there was an issue with it working today and I had a girl call me(who knows very well that the office staff can not fix the internet) and she tells me its not working. So i give her the custommer service number for the wireless internet company and tell her to call and they will sent someone right out. After I explain all this the next question out of her mouth is,..."Soooo what do I say when I call them?" I told her I would start by letting them know that your internet it not working. I mean, I don't know, do some people really need you to hold their hand that much? lol...it made my morning!

Awesome! I was really thinking about going, but I'm just going to have the tech at my OB do it, I have to get another u/s in 2 weeks anyway, so I'm just going to do it then! Glad they did a good job though, I was wondering since it was a school, but I'm sure the ones they let do it have been there longer. And you can't beat free!

  • I work with Academy cadets on a daily basis, and I always get "I didn't get your email, so iam late." Well if you didn't get my email, how the hell did you know you had a meeting with me then?

I also got this gem from a male cadet one time who was failing athletics "I can't run any faster because it makes my balls hurt."

My favorite excuse when I found drugs in a guy's pants pocket was "these aren't my pants". Uh-huh. Okay. I, apparently, look that stupid.

  • Why was the man able to move/use the equipment.  Was it left running or the keys in it?  If so, the workers should be trouble.

You know, that's a good question. I guess they left the keys in it. I never said our workers were very bright... Big Smile

    That's what I was thinking too ...

  • I work at a bank and we have atm machines at the lobby. After you insert your card the first thing it says is " touch here to speak english " and it has other languages too so the other day we hear a guy yelling at the atm saying " ENGLISH" then after a few tries when he was already frustrated he comes in and asks if we have normal atm because that one is asking him to speak his pin and he does not feel safe doing it ........ Yes he took the speak part literally ..... And he even got mad when we explained that he should type the pin not speak the pin...

  • Oohh Ohhh I remember another one from the Title company.  A man refinanced and called to ask where his cash out check was.  He asked if we could mail it and we said no it was against our policy and that he would need to come to our office with two forms of ID.  He then asked if we would fax him the check.  Why?  I am really hoping that he just wanted to see what the check looked like to make sure it was correct.  I sincerely hope he didn't think he could just walk into a bank and could cash a faxed copy of a check.  Please tell me he was not that stupid.  However my  coworker told him that the fax wouldn't do and that he would have to come in to our office since he didn't want to fax the courier fee.
  • I once worked at a dr's office and one of our patients called and said "i'm in the parking lot and I just had an accident with another car. can you call the police and tell them to come?"  Um, if you could use your cell phone to call us about the accident then why wouldn't you just call the police yourself?

    lol. thats a good one!

  • I think the guy was smart he used the crew's stupidity of leaving the keys with the equipment and got some stuff done. If someone left something on my property its fair game. I think it is rude when people leave something in front of or on your property without permission.  I understand the right of way isn't his property though but your crew should be in trouble for just leaving a piece of machinery luckily it didn't get very far.
  • When I was in college, I used to work at an amusement park during the summer.   Some of the gems I got while working there:

"When is it going to stop raining?"  Uhh, let me get on my direct line to God and get back to you on that one.

"Why is the ride not running?"  (This during a thunderstorm, with lightening shooting through the sky)  You go ahead and ride the big steel coaster in a lightening storm sir!!

"Does this go upside down?"  (As I am standing in front of the ride, with a huge loop visible behind me)

"What time is the 10:00 laser light show?" (We used to tell them 10:30 just for the hell of it)

"How long is the wait?" (Keep in mind, I would be sitting next to a HUGE sign that tells exactly how long the wait is)

But still, my all time favorite has to be the number of people that think 1/4 of an hour is 25 minutes!!  I didn't realize that there were 100 minutes in an hour folks...

Its been years since I worked there, but I just can't forgot the idiocy of people!

  • I work for a grocery distribution company. We deliver mainly to gas stations. We only change our schedule for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's (and the day that the Seahawks went to the Super Bowl because we were worried that we wouldn't have enough people show up to load the trucks). But we usually call our customers and remind them of the schedule well in advance and then again a week or two before hand. We actually had a woman full out yell at us saying that we should have given her more warning that Christmas was coming... not that her delivery would be a different day, that the actual holiday was so close.
