You guys act like she left him outside in the street to learn to crawl by dodging passing cars! I put my kid in his exersaucer to get laundry done....quick someone call child protective services!

I totally agree with you, I don't get why she is getting flamed at all.  Sometimes I need to go pee, or take a shower, or eat a grilled cheese sandwich, or talk to my grandmother on the phone, or get the mail, or let the dogs out.....or whatever, and she gets to zone for a few minutes.  That's life.  I can't be attentive 24 hours of the day.

  • I secretly have a total lack of respect for my mother and although I play the good daughter ALL.THE.TIME. the thoughts in my head when she's talking sometimes would make a sailor blush

I graduated from college 5 years ago, but I still use my student ID to get discounts at the movies or any other place that offers discounted rates for college students.

DH and I both do the exact same thing!

I would never compare the love I have for LO to the love I have for my dogs.  They are all my children, I love them all.

It's not like when I had a baby I didn't love my dad as much, or my DH as much....I love them all differently, but ALL of them are important priorities in my life.  Same with my dogs.

I would also never imply to a "pet person" that I love my baby more than they love their pets, because I don't think you can compare love across people.  Because hey, unfortunately, I do love my dogs more than a LOT of people love their kids.  Probably not people on here, but people in life in general.

And it really pisses me off to no end when someone who has kids says to someone who doesn't "well you just don't know because you don't have kids."  BULLSHlT.  I didn't become some sort of mom-zombie when I had a baby, I love my dogs even more now.  I may be a crazy pet person, but that doesn't mean I "didn't get it" before.

Honestly, this one gets a bit of a side eye from me.  I am a HUGE dog person and love, love, love my animals.  I do realize however that they are not people and not actual "children" - do you?

Prior to having a baby I was always very careful not to compare my love for my dogs to other people's love for their children.  I think it is highly offensive when someone describes something cute their child did and someone else in the conversation says, "yeah, I know.  Like the other day, my Yorkie, Princess, did the cutest thing..."

Not that this is really flame worthy, but when I was little - probably from ages 4-5-6, I would sit on the toilet backwards to pee. I thought that's how boys did it and it seemed more fun.

hahah I totally did the same thing.
    OK, here is mine.

I search my house mates room and truck for drugs on a regular basis.
I flirted with a guy DH works with to get a new tattoo for free.
I let DS zone out on the tv, so I have time to smoke.
I am letting the laundry pile up to see if either of the boy will do it for me.

    You sound very classy.

Hey, in her defense I would be HELLA happy for a free tattoo... as long as it was from a reputable place.

    Thats just me.

Nope, totally disagree.  My dogs are just as important to me.  I prefer dogs to people and think that they deserve just as much respect.  And for those people that talk about what their dogs do...their dogs ARE children to them, and those people who are offended because they have children--not worth talking to IMO.

Having a child did not change my opinion.  She is my sunshine--the sun and the moon, but my dogs are on the same level as all of the human members of my family.  So just the same as I would never say "I love my DH more than my dad and I love my dad more than my brother and I love DD1 more than DD2", even if it were true, I would never compare the love I have for my dogs to the love I have for my baby.  They are different, but they are the same at the same time.  They are all family.

Like I said, I would never imply that I love my dogs more than you love your baby, just like I would never imply that I love my baby more than you love your baby.  It's stupid to even compare, you can't compare across people and why would you want to?  I think what's highly offensive is moms who act elitist about someone's love for someone/something else, as if they know the other person's emotions and capacity for love.

I do get your pets are not the same as people TO YOU, but they are to me.

  • I never reply to these, but I actually have one this week. I feel sad for people who choose to get pregnant again when their LO is under  one year old. I feel like you are missing the opportunity to spend time with your first born when they are a baby. This is the only time you will be able to give your first child all of your attention and love without having another newborn to take care of. They are babies for such a short time that I hate to see people already TTC when their LO is 3 months old.
