After 1 early success she's not interested. She'll refuse it or just chew on the nipple. She won't drink even if a little milk comes out of the bottle. After a while she'll start to cry until I give her the breast. I've tried Medela, Dr. Brown, BornFree bottles at different times so far. Today I'll try Avent and try again The First Years bottle... forget the name. So frustrating... I don't know what to do! I have about 2 weeks before I go to an all day training class I registered for.
The Avent bottles have a larger nipple which may help her latch on better. A friend of mine who started the transition to a bottle over the weekend on her 4 week old started with the #2 nipple and Avent bottles. She would hold his chin and push it against the bottom of the nipple to get him to latch on. The first try, he drank 3 oz. in one hour. After he got the hang of it later that evening, he drank 4 oz. in 20 minutes. I hope this helps, good luck!
Sorry LO is having trouble adjusting to the bottle! Have you tried giving her the breast just until she calms down and then going back to the bottle? That is my only suggestion. If she keeps refusing I would talk to a LC. They probably have some good suggestions.
have you tried having someone else give your lo a bottle?
THIS. I'm introducing next week, which means I'm leaving the house to get my nails done while DH handles the wailing beastie. Lots of babies won't take it from the mother--they know something better is available!
Yes, I tried others but they aren't consistant. Can't get people to do it when I need them. Small success in attempt #2 today. She didn't refuse the Avent nipple. She chewed it and played with it but didn't eat a thing. Holding out for the boob I guess. Will try again
