3rd Trimester

seriously thinking about skipping my BF class

is it worth it?

It was free so I'm not wasting any money.  I didn't think my birthing class was really helpful.

Re: seriously thinking about skipping my BF class

  • Get the book "So That's What They're For" and try to attend a La Leche meeting. That book was WAY more helpful than any class I took.
  • No!!!!!

Don't skip the BFing class...I thought it was very worthwhile.

(DH and I are not taking childbirth classes, though.)

  • I found it to be helpful. They gave a lot of tips and tricks for making sure it goes smoothly and solutions for when it doesn't. Also, it was great for DH to learn more about it and how he could be "involved".

  • I skipped mine yesterday.  It was a one night class and I was in L & D from 3:30 AM to 8:30AM then I went to work until 3:30 PM.  I was so tired, I didn't go...The hospital has 2 lactation consultants that are available while you are recovering plus all of the nurses are highly educated in BF.  I am not really worried about missing the class.

  • I personally found the breastfeeding class to be SO much more helpful and better than the childbirth class. I wouldn't skip it.
  • my class is tonight.   I'm looking forward to it - even though my own mom is a lactation consultant

  • My BF class was suuuuper helpful. I'm so glad that I went. DH went too, and he also felt like he got a lot out of it.

I'm not doing mine for this reason. ?I just plan to ask for lots of help during my recovery!?

  • I didn't take one, and wish I had. There were issues that we're there in the hospital that arose at home. Had I had the information I received from the LC yesterday at a local drop-in, I could have potentially saved myself from 9 days of toe-curling pain... :)
  • From what I've heard, this is the one class you DON"T want to miss.  I'd go.
  • I never took a BF class. ?I didn't get much out of the childbirth classes either. I knew most of the stuff already.

I highly recommend the That's What They're For book. ?Very helpful in those first few days. ? Also the lactation specialists at your hospital will be able to help you out if need be. ?I never felt the need to take a BF class-I was more a learn when you need to type of person.?

  • Don't skip it...I think the first two weeks of BF are worst than labor and delivery!! I don't think a class can fully prepare you for BF but it will not hurt.  BF is extremely hard the first weeks and many women give up too soon.  The first weeks were hell but I stuck with it and now we are a great team.  GL
