Pregnant after IF

Question for those who did PGS testing prior to FET

Hi ladies! Now that I'm at my OB we are starting to look at what tests need to be done and I'm curious what, if any, you skipped having had genetic testing prior to getting pregnant. I spoke with the genetic counselor yesterday and she recommended still doing the panorama blood work and mentioned there is always a chance with PGS that, since they are only testing one cell, there could still be issues (it's called mosaic syndrome, who knew). As for the NT scan, since insurance will pay for it there's no reason to NOT do it she said - it's a 'free' u/s at that point.

We haven't talked about any additional testing like chorionic villus sampling or amniocentesis so I'm curious your thoughts on that as well. TIA!

Re: Question for those who did PGS testing prior to FET

  • I did PGS testing and didn't do any of the other blood work or scans that are offered. But it could be because of my age (I'm 30) so I'm not considered high risk. My OB and MFM were both fine with us skipping the additional testing because we did PGS.

  • We did PGS and the testing the OB wanted. Our RE still said we should and by that time it was all free anyway bc we had already hit our out of pocket max. I think it's up to you and what you feel comfortable with.

  • I had PGD testing and once I was discharged to my ob,  I had  two screening blood tests.  Insurance covered them  and the tests would not cause harm to the baby.  I would l have only done further testing (amnio)  if the other test results were questionable. Although the risk is not super high,  there are risks in doing an amniocentesis or cvs.  I am in my early 40s so we knew that having those tests were a possibility,  but since the PGD results and the other blood tests were 99%,  we student feel any reason to do further testing. I think any additional testing is a personal choice.
  • We did PGS, but our RE told us to also do all screening offered with our OB, which was the NT and NIPT (Materni21). We did both and both were covered fully by our insurance (BCBS). I do have a miscarriage history though, so that might be why it was suggested?

As far as amnio and CVS testing, I imagine those won't even be suggested until all other non-invasive options have been covered and if any of those results indicate risk.
  • We also did PGS and were recommended a NIPT at 11/12 weeks. Our RE/ OB said that PGS is still not 100%. Not sure if the clinic was trying to make money off of us, but who are we to say no! I would have paid for it out of pocket too for the peace of mind (and we also got to find out the sex a bit earlier thanks to this test).

  • Thanks, everyone! We've gone ahead and made appointments for the panorama and the NT scan for Tuesday. I'm always up for an extra peek at the baby on an u/s.

@flanners1  - did they not offer to tell you the sex at transfer? We were able to find out since they know after the PGS testing. We have chosen not to but I'm surprised they didn't give you the option. Our clinic allowed you to pick what gender to transfer if you have more than one option as well.
