I am now 14 weeks pregnant. I have gained 21 pounds. How do I stop this without hurting my baby? I dont want to have gestational diabetes or any other problems with me being overweight.
Is your doctor worried about your weight gain? This sounds like a conversation you should have with them, as we do not know your medical history/underlying issues, pre-pregnancy weight, etc. There are many, many variables that factor into pregnancy weight gain.
Definitely discuss this with your doctor. During my last pregnancy, I had gained 25 pounds by 28 weeks and my doctor reprimanded me. This time around, I started out overweight, and they told me I should try to gain as little weight as possible. Like, 10 pounds total. I've been tracking my calories using the My Fitness Pal app. So far, I've only gained a few pounds and I'm 21 weeks. If your doctor's advice is to just watch what you eat, I recommend tracking your food intake with an app.
I didn't gain any weight until my third trimester, and I think it was because its my first pregnancy and I was super careful about what I ate. I started being less strict once I reached third trimester and passed my glucose screening. I'm 35 weeks today and have gained 10 pounds.
Like PP said, discuss it with your doctor. Also look at WHAT you're eating. Maybe swap some things for healthier alternatives if you can and see if that helps.

You should definitely talk to your doctor about it and keeping track of what you eat can be very helpful. But every woman and pregnancy is different. Gestational diabetes has nothing to do with how much weight you gain or don't gain or what you eat really. Eating healthy and getting exercise is important for you and the baby and your doctor may or may not be concerned at this point.
Talk to your doctor first. With that said, unless you were underweight to begin with, there is little need to gain any weight up until you are 20 weeks. Especially because you have already gained weight, I would think that it is ok to stop or minimize any weight gain until then. Even once you hit 20 weeks you only need an average of 300 additional daily calories so really watch your eating.
I don't know if it's because of thyroid disease or that I simply suck at eating during pregnancy but I tend to have the same issue in pregnancy and have to be extremely careful so that I won't gain too much.

Like pp said, I'd talk to your doctor. With my DS, I was up about 20lbs by 20 weeks and ended up gaining 40lbs total. With this one, I'm a little over 20 weeks and am only up 3 lbs. Each pregnancy is different. My doctor never said anything about my weight the first time...your body will put on what it needs to in order to have a healthy pregnancy. Just keep moderation in mind!
