I am in so much pain from these shots! The actual injection isn't so bad- it's several hours later. I can barely walk and my leg just throbs. I am on high doses and do the injection daily but this seems really bad! I do the heating pad, massage, etc and still so bad. I tried in ethyl oleate but it didn't make a difference. Anyone else experience anything like this?
I'm pretty sure everyone who does PIO injections feels pain afterwards. I've never had my legs throb, but it has been difficult at times to walk. I'd ask your doc and see what s/he says. They may be able to switch you to suppositories instead if it truly that bad.

I was having the same problem if I went in too close to a previous injection spot.... I went back to the RE and had them show me how big of an area I could work with (was a lot bigger than they originally told me).... that really helped me..... but at times it was unavoidable since they seemed to 'heal' at different rates. I didn't worry about switching sides, just tried to find the spot that felt the best. Good luck - they suck

Is it possible you hit the sciatic nerve with them? That's what happened to me. My right side was throbbing, tingling and then kind of felt like it lost sensation. I was switched to suppositories after that. This almost went away eventually. I say almost because to this day my right side of my butt and thigh still feel a little weird to the tough, as if not all sensation is back over there. Definitely speak to your doctor and see what they'd suggest.

I was having a lot of pain my first week on PIO. But then I discovered that we were actually doing the shots too low and moved them up closer to the love handle region (think above the top of your butt crack) and then my pain decreased significantly.
I was having pain last cycle, but I noticed that my husband was pressing too hard. I also switched to doing them in the morning. I used to do them at night, but I find doing it in the am is much better. Walking all day helps work the oil into the muscle, where as at night- im usually sitting afterwards and then going to bed.

My injection areas are still off and I haven't had a shot for 11 weeks. I asked my ob a few weeks ago if this was normal and they said you do a number on the injection areas and it will take a while to heal. Towards the end my welts weren't going away, I think your body has a hard time healing that area and after a while it starts to take longer for the oil to obsorb. Wish we all had better responses but they were super painful for me as well
I hate to say it, but I'm at 33+5 wks pregnant, so it's been about 19 weeks since my last shot, each injection area is still somewhat numbbto the touch, though it's slowly gotten better.

Just wanted to offer a different perspective for anyone who might be reading and freaking out: I had zero pain with my shots. Well... I think once my hubby hit a vein or something and my leg went a little numb and I bled a lot. That wasn't fun... but everything was normal after that! After my last shot @ 10 weeks, my booty healed and I feel like I did before the shots. It all just depends on the person I suppose.... but I think everyone here will agree that it is SO worth it!!

I had excruciating pain with my shots. I could barely walk. I ended up switching to my thigh and made sure my leg was fully bent to stretch the muscle before the injection. This helped a lot. If you are still having pain, ask about a thigh shot.

1.) Watch a bunch of YouTube videos to make sure you are getting the injection in the right spot. One time my husband was about one inch over from the spot he needed to be and it hurt for days! 2.) Make sure whoever gives you the injection uses one hand to hold the base of the shot where it enters your skin. This helps avoid the needle jiggling/moving too much and scratching the muscle. 3.)MASSAGE the injection site for at least 30 seconds afterward and apply a heating pad for 5-10 minutes. This was life changing for me and eliminated all my pain!!
I asked this on another board but I'm having a problem getting the progesterone in ethyl oleate. My usual pharmacy can't ship it right now for some reason. So they sent the Rx to Freedom fertility which only carries progesterone in sesame oil. My doc does not use this. And of course my REs nurses didn't return my calls today. What pharmacies did you ladies use??

@tiffanyw1783 I answered you in the other thread but wanted to make sure you saw. I got my PIO in ethyl oleate from Lake Country Pharmacy. It is a compounding pharmacy located in GA but they ship overnight. They were really wonderful to deal with. I hope you get the right kind ordered in time! I had a bad reaction to sesame oil with IVF #1, and it was not fun.

I have used CVS Specialty Pharmacy which I believe is a compounding pharmacy and Village Pharmacy based out of Waltham, MA for my fertility meds. I have also had meds compounded from Phusion Pharmacy and they do progesterone compounds, though I'm not sure about the exact one you're looking for.
I finally found it at several different pharmacies and my RE has used Avella before so we went with them. Thank you ladies for all the recommendations. I had no idea that all specialty pharmacies that dealt with fertility meds didn't have the Progesterone in ethyl oleate.
