Let's talk about skin care.

Re: Let's talk about skin care.

  • (I've been looking on multiple forums for skin care advice, and don't remember where I found this- I apologize if someone else posted it)

There's an app called EWG Healthy Living (it comes up first if you search "skin deep" in the app store) which lets you scan the bar code of any skin product and it tells you if there are any harmful chemicals in it. I haven't used it yet, but plan on going on a Target trip at lunch to find a cure for my preggo pimples.

I use it @kayemjay2 and although it lists EWG verified products and the ingredients on most items you want to look up, you still need to read reviews or get samples because they're mostly brands you've never heard of before. I've been getting a bit overwhelmed but ordered a moisturizer with sunscreen and a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen to start the process of elimination and already the first product has a funky smell that I can't get over. It's been 2 hours and it's still lingering.

Good luck on your target excursion! Hope you find something that works. For what it's worth, tea tree oil is safe during pregnancy and can help with spot treating stubborn pimples.

  • @sweaterboots do you use the AMOREPACIFIC - future response age defense cream with or without spf?

Gonna stop by a sephora for a sample!

  • I generally steer clear of EWG as it's not considered a credible source. https://chemistscorner.com/why-the-ewg-skin-deep-database-is-still-a-dubious-source/

@mrsrep123 I use without SPF because I don't like the finish as much...I may regret that in the future as I am very fair and I live in Los Angeles...but I don't just hang out outside a ton either, I'm either inside at work or inside at home hanging with hubby & dogs.  Perhaps I'll change though when I'm running around more with our kid :P

  • I absolutely love my Shiseido Ibuki line. Switched to this about 2 years ago and would be very hard pressed to even try anything else.
  • For a few months I've been using the Aesop parsley seed cleanser, toner, antioxidant drops and cream moisturizer. They just released an antioxidant hydrating lotion that is richer than the cream and I might switch to that one after. Had some samples and it was amazing.

I have really sensitive skin and in Montreal winters it gets sooo dry so the parsley seed program had been the best thing for my skin.

For the rest of my body I just use Aveeno, oats are magical.
  • Since I ran out months ago I've been washing my face with (gasp!) water, but I switched to the oil cleansing method a few years ago. I used to have terrible acne that's pretty much gone now, but I never broke out using oil. It's olive oil/mineral (?) oil combo. I forget now, you can totally look it up on tons of websites. It's like a cleanser and moisturizer all together. Plus it's a million times cheaper than almost anything else!

on the rest of my body I've started using coconut oil for moisturizer. It totally cleared up a rash I had!
  • I only wash my face in the shower. I use Simple products Moisturizing Face Wash, Protecting Light Moisturizer with SPF, and if I actually wear more than mascara on my eyes and remember I use their Dual Effect Eye Make-up Remover. I make a toner from water, witch hazel, and lemon juice. Sometimes I'll change it up and add a little alcohol if I'm having some issues. I don't use anything at night.

I've been using coconut oil after I shower for moisturizing my body and I really like it! It seems to have cleared up those little bumps you get on the back of your arms...not sure what they are called and they aren't really pimples, just bumps.

I use a similar cleansing system and it's SO cheap, one step, and my skin looks awesome! It's a micellar water cleanser/moisturizer.
