NEWCOMERS:

To be added to the Weekly Checkin, please answer the following:

1.  How long have you been TTC?

2.  What is your diagnosis?

3.  What is your current treatment plan?

QOTW: What is the most 'Twilight Zone-ish' or unexplained thing that ever happened to you?

(To get the ball rolling, I'll answer this one.  I once went to a conference in another state and sat near a woman who for some strange reason, I felt I HAD to keep in touch with.  I'm not the pushy type but I positively insisted that we exchange phone numbers.  I followed up with her and asked if we could meet for lunch.  We later learned that we are related. We look nothing alike and don't have the same last name.)

Married for 7 years, TTC for 4 years
dx:  Diminished Ovarian Reserve
2 Clomid IUI's + 4 injectable IUI's= 5 BFNs and 1 mc

Not a whole heck of a lot going on for me this week. Had a BFN over the weekend and now just waiting for AF to start.  Once she arrives, we will be starting our first round with clomid.

There is only one twilight-zonish thing that has happened to me.  It was back in the 5th grade, I was at my desk looking out the window and I clearly remember thinking that the clouds at that moment looked particularly pretty and neat.  I get home from school and my grandmother calls and I knew...my great grandmother who had been battling cancer had passed away.

I also get dejavu way more than I think should be normal.

I finally had my appointment with my PCP yesterday and she ordered a lot of preliminary blood tests. I got the results today and my prolactin levels are elevated. I am supposed to follow-up with a gynecologist next week and I think I will be referred to an endocrinologist. I have been googling and searching the forums to find out more information about elevated prolactin and it seems like I might have a benign tumor. Does anyone have any personal experience with increased prolactin and it's treatment?

    Twilight-zonish Story:
This truly may sound crazy to you, but in high school I went through a couple weeks where I could predict the future. It was to the point where I would write down something specific and give it to a friend to confirm it when it happened later. This wasn't vague either. At one point I accurately predicted the final score of a soccer game. [I had prayed that God would give me the gift of prophecy before this happened. I was overwhelmed by it and prayed he would take it away after a couple weeks and I've never had it happen again.]

Well, I am on cloud nine this week because I was able to ovulate for the first time probably ever! We had to rearrange our beach trip so I could do my iui on Monday. It went well; I experienced no pain during the procedure, but afterwards I had some mild cramping and was super bloated (still am a touch). Now I'm in the tww, and I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but I can't help it! Luckily, I've had the beach to take my mind off of the results. Finger and toes crossed!

As far as twilight zone stuff, I can't really say I've experienced anything like that.

So on Saturday I go for blood work to check for ovulation (CD20 since 21 is a Sunday). Nervous about that. If I'm not ovulating, I will start Clomid next cycle. I'm having super mixed feelings about it... if I'm not ovulating I GET to start Clomid, and possibly getting pregnant. If I am ovulating, then no clomid and more sadness while not being able to get pregnant. At the same time, what if I start clomid, and then still can't get ku?
Which leads to the awful questions like "What if God doesn't want me to get pregnant right now?" "what if it's just not time?" (All things that people say when they hear that you aren't pregnant yet....)
Then there is the confusion about it all too... If "God doesn't want me to get pregnant yet" then wouldn't that mean clomid isn't going to help? or clomid might cause me to get pregnant and then I miscarry.... and what if I use up my clomid allowance before "god allows me to get pregnant".....

Ya'll this is what goes through my head when I am left to my self. UGH. Please someone tell me I am NOT crazy!

    TMI Warning:
I've also been having this weird brown spotting/discharge the last week. No clue what that's about.. I'm going to ask Dr. Google after this post.

As far as twilight zone stuff... I can't really think of anything...
But the twilight zone series made me terrified of mannequins for a LONG time when I was younger.

@mrswifeytoad  You are not crazy.  When we got our results back that everything (so far) was normal, I spent a good amount of time afterwards wondering why we weren't getting pregnant, thinking that maybe I was just not supposed to be a mother and then wondering why not because I think I would be a fantastic one, etc etc etc.  So I totally get it.  And when people tell me those things, it drives me crazy.  Shortly after we got our results, my DH told his cousin (who is his best friend) about our troubles and he basically told him to go ahead and do what we think we need to but that 'it would happen, not to worry' so on and so forth.  I got so mad, especially because it was coming from a man whose wife just had their second child, that they had not even planned on having, a couple of months ago.

Hi! I'm still fairly new! I just posted an intro a couple of days ago.

    1.  How long have you been TTC? 13 months

    2.  What is your diagnosis? Endometriosis

    3.  What is your current treatment plan? I had a laparoscopy to diagnose and remove endo earlier this year, and since then I've been working on eating better and cutting out caffeine to hopefully control the endo growth. I have an appt with my OBGYN for a check up at the end of this month to discuss further testing and a referral to an RE.

QOTW: I can't really think of anything twilight zone-ish, but I'll come back and update later if I think of something!

@mrswifeytoad I had similar questions, but ultimately I think you keep taking the next step forward and keep praying about it. I prayed specifically for either a. Doors to open for me or b. God to take the desire away. Each month we have moved forward, and I've reached a place where I feel pretty at peace that my prayer will be answered.

@mrswifeytoad Those are such hard questions and I've been asking myself the same ones over and over for months. Why would God put this desire in my heart and then withhold it? Is he punishing me for something? Does he think I wouldn't be a good mom? Is something going to happen to DH, so He is sparing me the difficulty of being a single parent? (the list goes on and on).

I always try to tell myself, that God designed us to love and want to have children, because He delights in us as His children. BUT we live in a very fallen world, full of disease, and death and major imperfection. Our bodies are broken ones and for some of us, it's cancer, and for others it's infertility.  Sometimes God grants miraculous healing, sometimes we can overcome our illness with the (God given) knowledge medical science provides, and sometimes His answer to our prayers is "wait" or even "no". I'm having a hard time accepting this myself, but just praying that God will give us a child at the right time, or will change my heart and lead us toward adoption.

Sorry that was more of my own musings than anything else, but all that to say.... I understand your questions, I've felt them too. Hang in there :)

@MandyBeeSLP crazy cool story! I would have been totally freaked out by that.

Loved reading through the thread tonight...

We are in the TWW, trigger shot on Sunday morning...we BD'd Sunday-Wednesday, haha.  Enjoying a break tonight.  Seeing my first ever positive ovulation test was really fun.

This is the first time I KNOW I ovulated and knowing now that DH's sperm are healthy and strong...can't help but get my hopes up.

Enjoying the fact that I HAVE to wait two weeks to test after the trigger shot, going to try and just relax and not think about it too much, (good luck, right?)

Feeling frustrated, lost and sad this week...

I had my follow-up with my gyne on Monday and I found out that I have several small fibroids, one of which is submucosal (in the uterine cavity). Doctor is unsure whether this is causing infertility, however, removing it may cause scar tissue which will make things worse. He gave me a prescription for letrozole for 6 months and if not pregnant after that he will remove the fibroid.

I am frustrated! Not only does DH have morphology issues (which the doc doesn't think is a problem) but I have these stupid fibroids which could hinder my ability to even carry a child at all.

I got a hold of the report from my ultrasound which I had done the day before I started AF. It said that my lining was 6mm! 6mm?!? There's no way that's think enough by that stage right? I read it should be 10-16mm before AF. So now i'm worried that these fibroids are draining the blood supply to my lining. I called my doctor on Tuesday about this but he has yet to get back to me.

So now you understand why I'm frustrated! It took me over a month to get in to see my doctor to discuss results for all of 10 minutes and he didn't even do a good job of it. And this doctor is supposed to be one of the best in the city. Ugh!

@JMR1515 I'm so sorry that you had some difficult results; it doesn't make it easier when the doctors is a poor communicator, I'm sorry :(  Thinking of you today.

Probably shouldn't have tested this morning (8 or 9dpo) but I did, and BFN.
At least this will be our last cycle doing this on our own.

QOTW: One fall, DH and I took a walk at our local arboretum (it's very large, probably (200 acres) in the evening. We hadn't been there much, but assumed there was a simple loop through the woods. It became dark much quicker than we expected and the trails crisscrossed, looped around and had almost no visible trail markers. We soon found ourselves very lost, (we later discovered this section of the arboretum was actually called the lost woods.)

We found a two-track and began walking along it, when suddenly we realized there was a group of people walking several yards behind us... in dead silence.... Some of the women and children were wearing amish style clothing, and we were only able to see them, because an old man in the front of the group was carrying an old, glowing, oil lantern. We stepped off the trail, terrified and wondering who these random people were walking silently through the forest, trying to decide if we would ask for help. Then, the old man, as the group passed by, quietly said, "Kind of late to be out here...... Don't get lost!"

It was so strange and terrifying that, I almost said nothing and let them pass by, but luckily I plucked up my courage asked for directions back to the parking lot. Besides the old man, no one else in the group spoke, which I still find very, very odd. I'm still not sure it wasn't a group of ghosts :)

Scary story @ReesaAnne16! I get creeped out easily so that would have definitely been terrifying!

The doctor finally called back and he said my lining is fine, that you actually have to double the thickness, so my lining was 12mm. Phew! Feeling a bit relieved. Now I have to just put faith in my doctor. We'll try naturally until the end of the year and then see about surgery options in the new year. Now off to fill my letrozole prescription!

@mrswifeytoad - I totally understand where you are at. I've moved past the "why" stage to pure anger at God. So many angry tearful prayers that just seem to bring more heartache and defeat.

I'm a week into my TWW with round 2 of Clomid. It's been a really hard week for us. DH's company outsourced his department and his job was eliminated on Thursday. We've decided to continue the full treatment course of the Clomid, but if we are not pregnant by the end of next month (and if he has not found a new job) it will be a rest stop in our journey. While I can support us on my income, we can't add IUI or IVF to our expenses without him working. He is devistated and I'm trying to make light of it for him, but I am too.

@hoffmanr7 sorry about AF. FX that clomid is all you need!

@MandyBeeSLP I have no experience to share but benign or not tumors are scary. I hope that isn't what is causing your results!

@Clt2pwm11 congratulations on ovulating! Definitely a great feeling when your body is doing what it should! Hope the beach was fun!

@mrswifeytoad I think about things like that often. My whole life people have told me what a great mother I would be. I'm not religious but I think things like maybe if I didn't make this bad decision and that bad decision I would be pregnant by now....maybe this is my punishment for being a brat that one time...

@pretzel2plus1 Welcome! Hope your stay here is short and sweet! (Sorry if this is my second time welcoming you!)

@Bwhitta FX this is your cycle!

@Jmr1515 I'm sorry you received all those negative results. I hope the letrozole helps and you don't have to remove the fibroid!

@ReesaAnne16 Holy moly your story is terrifying! I was waiting the entire time for you to say 'Just kidding!'. Wow!

I'm on CD 13. Doing an IUI this cycle. I had two follicles a 13 and an 11 on Tuesday. This morning the ultrasound tech called in sick so I only got bloodwork done...I am calling them in a few minutes as they close at 3 and still haven't called with instructions of when to come in next. Gonel-f, trigger and progesterone after IUI is the plan. DH is really pushing me to 'relax' this cycle. We both have a week off at the end of the month and if the IUI is done by then, we are going to book a cruise next Wednesday, drive down to Florida on Friday and hope on a ship for 5 days. Just to leave. Get our minds off anything and everything.

QOTW: Mine isn't super freaky. I have always mentioned smells my whole life and love how smells can make me think of people and memories.  When my Grandfather was killed, I distinctively remember smelling him for days before and after his passing. Everywhere I went I would turn my head thinking he would be behind me because I could smell him. Rationally I can think that his choice of cologne mixed with grease (he was a mechanic) is probably a popular smell. But I really like to think that was him giving me one last hug.

The only thing is I have small panic attacks when I randomly smell my Dad or my DH.

Hi ladies! I'm benched this cycle- waiting 2 more weeks to redo some blood work for my new RE. He wants to see my tumor necrosis factor (TNF) rise & my DHEA to come down a little. I mentioned before that he seems to be doing his own thing to try to make this happen since it is not something that has been widely studied at this point. Interesting point though- he claims he discovered this link btw low/undetectable TNFs & women he was treating with IVF and they weren't getting BFPs about 10 yrs ago. He then showed me a research study from 2012 that also found women with low TNFs had lower success rates with IVF so I am hopeful he is onto something since no one else has been able to figure out exactly why I have never conceived- even with clomid and monitoring.

Yay to the ladies that finally ovulated! @ReesaAnne16 whoa!!

Qotw- I am so mad I can't think of a good example here because my life is FULL of these events. I consider myself borderline psychic because I often sense that things are going to happen....or think of someone right before they text or call.

@hoffmanr7 Sorry about CD1 (or CD2 now, I suppose)!  I hope you're rewarding yourself with all the delicious foods and drinks.

@MandyBeeSLP I don't have any experience with increased prolactin, but I'm sending you lots of good vibes and prayers that it's nothing too serious.  FX you get some answers from your doc next week!

@clt2pwm11 Congrats on your IUI!  FX!  Enjoy your time at the beach. :)

@mrswifeytoad I agree with all the others; you're not crazy!  I think it's natural to have thoughts like this.  It's a very frustrating process and you can't help but think there might be something going on that's entirely beyond your control.  I personally have a lot of conflicting thoughts about the role that God does or doesn't play in conception.  Do you have a minister with whom you can talk this out?  I think it would help feel less alone, and maybe help guide your thoughts.

@BWhitta That's wonderful news!  FX for even better news in the coming days!

@jmr1515 I'm glad your lining turns out to be normal!  I'm sorry for the frustrations with your doctor, though.  Are you thinking of moving to an RE?

@Plainjanie Your cruise plan sounds like a great way to relax.  Good luck with your IUI!

@lablover78 It's nice that your doc is looking at this from a research perspective.  He sounds really committed to finding a solution; maybe you'll help spur treatments for future women. :)

I'm on CD6, day 3 of Clomid.  So far no symptoms--which of course makes me question if it's doing anything--except maybe I tear up when I read something emotional more than I normally would?  Who knows.  Going in on Monday for the ultrasound, and hoping we'll get to do our IUI at the end of next week.

QOTW: @ReesaAnne16 That sounds terrifying!  I've definitely never experienced anything like that.
I'm more like @lablover78: I often get a sense that something's going to happen before it does.  I also get a fair amount of deja vu, for what it's worth.

Hi! I'm new! I just posted an intro in the IF forum but figured I'd pop in here too!

    1. TTC for the last 17 months, with a couple-month break before that for cyst treatment and 4 months TTC before that.

    2. No diagnosis yet, heading in for that soon, but I have a history of ovarian cysts that tend to rupture and have been diagnosed with painful periods.

    3. No treatment plan yet either...our lives have been so hectic we're just now about to try and see what the damage is and how to move forward.

I'm only 22 so we're not totally racing against the clock but I've always had on and off unexplainable health issues so I'm really nervous to start testing since I've been through the runaround of medical tests with no results before (I was sick as a teenager.)

@goldenkeys - can you change my  DX to potential blocked right tube and RX to Clomid, Estrodiol, trigger shot, IUI, progesterone?

Im on CD16 and we have the go ahead for the trigger shot tonight. Follies measured 18 and 20 yesterday. And we have the IUI Monday. The nice part about being monitored is the confirmation of timing. So we should have good timing in addition to the IUI. I have my FX so hard for this cycle.  All of the meds are getting pricy.

    Twilight zone story:
About a month I got my drivers license, I wanted to drive all my friends to see a Sugar Ray concert in a city about an hour away. (I'm dating myself with this story!) My mom was so against it and argued with me about going and said she didn't think it was a good idea. I told her she had to trust me to go on long drives eventually and now was as good time as ever.

So on the way home, I got into a minor fender bender (someone hit me). At home my brother was online (good old dial up) on one phone line and he was also on the phone on the other line. So effectively no one could reach our house. My mom came to the office and tells my brother, "get off the phone or internet because your sister is going to call and tell us she has been in an accident."  He is weirded out but gets off the phone and right then, I call home and tell him, "get me mom I just got into an accident." And he is like "mom already knew!"

Not on Clomid anymore. It failed all the way up to 200mg. I'm going to see an RE on Monday. I hope the next steps are reasonable.

QOTW: What is the most 'Twilight Zone-ish' or unexplained thing that ever happened to you?
As a person who believes in God, most things that happen to me don't feel inexplicable. I will say this; my mom left my dad for an abusive a-hole. Many times we had to move to a new place after running away from him. Every time they would get back together. But at each new place there was a shiny aquarium rock. It felt so reassuring. When I was evicted from my apartment in 2014 (for having too many cats) I was a hot mess. We had 3 days to move out and it felt like we had nowhere to go. In the moving truck there was a fistful of aquarium rocks. I felt comforted, and everything turned out fine. We're house hunting now, and best you believe I'll be looking for aquarium rocks.

Started AF with no provera so that's a first in a long time. I had a few opk strips that had a second line show up but it wasn't as dark as the control line but I was also testing in the morning. We were taking a break from trying until we saw an RE because it's getting to the point of trying to make a baby is just depressing me. But I think since I started AF on my own I will keep temping and using opk this cycle and when I see the RE try to get a plan of action for hopefully next cycle but I had a recent expense that I wasn't anticipating, I accidentally threw my glasses in my purse with my keys and scratched them beyond usability and it's too hot/humid for my contacts to stay in and my insurance doesn't cover glasses. So we might have to wait 2 cycles to rebuild our savings account a little so we can actually pay for tests meds etc

I thought of a twilight moment!!!! When I took my first teaching job, I prayed earnestly to find some friends in the small town I was in. After a short while, I met two fabulous friends. About a year into our friendship, we were talking and I shared with them that I had been praying for friends, and not just the normal kind but best friends. To my surprise, they both confided that the month we met they too had been praying for best friends to do life with. We thought that was crazy awesome! God answered all our prayers by sending us best friends who had prayed the exact same prayers. Good God stuff.
