Hi everyone- I've been TTCAL since last August, so I'm now starting my 13th month. I have 3 children and have been pregnant 6 times, always gotten pg easily in the past. Now that's not the case. I started seeing an RE in April and have had all the tests. Everything looks perfect. RE told me since I have unexplained infertility it should be an easy fix. I have done two IUI's. One with trigger, one without, both with clomid. Not sure why 2nd didn't work - it was perfect timing, dh's sperm was excellent, and I had two mature follicles. I'm not sure how iui helps though, when my dh's sperm count and motility are both great. I also ovulate on my own regularly, so I don't think a trigger is helpful to me either. If anyone could explain how either could help me I'd appreciate it. I feel like I'm just wasting money and my RE doesn't know what else to do so he is "throwing the book at me" and trying everything and seeing if it sticks. I cannot do anything more than iui's since I have no insurance coverage for IF.
Clomid should make you produce more eggs and the more eggs you have the better the chances that one will fertilize and produce a pregnancy The trigger makes you ovulate and is basically for timing purposes, so your doctor knows when you are going to,ovulate to time the IUI for the right day. The IUI places the sperm directly in your uterus. Many sperm don't make it from your vagina, through your cervix and into the uterus (check out the great sperm race on YouTube) so the IUI helps get more sperm closer to the egg(s) to increase the chances of success.
Hello! I second what @LadyMillil said. Medicated IUI with a trigger is a pretty standard first step for unexplained infertility. Our RE said the average UIF couple will have a 10% chance each cycle with that method, so don't get discouraged yet. Welcome!

The trigger makes you ovulate and is basically for timing purposes, so your doctor knows when you are going to,ovulate to time the IUI for the right day.
The IUI places the sperm directly in your uterus. Many sperm don't make it from your vagina, through your cervix and into the uterus (check out the great sperm race on YouTube) so the IUI helps get more sperm closer to the egg(s) to increase the chances of success.
