Congested baby: UPDATE in comments

For the past week my LO has been pretty congested.  My LC specialist thinks it is due to milk getting up into his sinuses because I produce so much, so quickly.  It is very worrisome to me to be woken up by my baby choking on snot.  I have called my doctor and have done all of the recommended actions.. Vaporizer, elevating his head at night, saline flushes of his nose. I have also been trying to hold him more upright during his feedings. A majority of the snot is clear with small flecks of milk... There is just so much!  It has been keeping us awake at all hours.  I have been using the noise Freida to suck it all out, it just never ends!!

Any other suggestions?  No fever, not dehydrated, still eating well.  I however need sleep!!!

A diffuser with peppermint essential oils. My mom does one of the essential oil MLMs and they have an oil called breathe that works great but peppermint essential oils will work too. All of my children are prone to congestion a so I just use the diffuser every night. You can buy one on Amazon. Good luck!

He is three weeks and four days, but he was three weeks and two days early.  From what I understand it is fairly normal, but has me completely on edge all the time.

Hmmm, I'm not sure I was thinking if he was brand new it could have been amniotic fluid swallowed during labor. My LO had the same symptoms and they suctioned her tummy before we left the hospital and she's been fine ever since.its very scary as a new mom but sounds like your doing everything you can. I've heard babyVicks vapor rub in their heels with socks can help too. GL

Thanks everyone.  It has been basically a week with the symptoms so I have bumped up my 4 week appt and an going to have the doc check it out today.  Starting to interfere with sleep for the both of us.  Have this book called baby 411 and it suggested the saline drops right before feeding... Giving it a try now.

Are you doing drops or the mist? I use the mist and she hates it but my boys did also. Just make sure you place a burp cloth or something under their nose so the saline doesn't go in their mouth. It usually takes 2 sprays in each nostril for me to get everything loose. My first son was super congested for his few months and it was awful! I feel for you but it'll get better. I hope you find something that works!

My son sounds like he has a stuffy nose but when we use the nose Frieda or the regular bulb booger snatcher, we don't get anything. Dr said it's likely that his nasal passages are just inflamed. He sleeps better being slightly elevated so we went out and bought this chair. we have only had it for 2 days but he really seems to like it and sleeps well in it.

Update:. Well it has more been over three weeks that I have been dealing with LO's congestion and it is not getting any better...i feel like it is worse even!!  So frustrating and scary!  I had to steam him in the bathroom with the shower running hot at 3am just so he could sort of breathe properly.  It all seems like it has hardened and settled the back of his throat now and I think he may have retractions.  Basically means he is working super hard to breathe.  We are going to urgent care at children's tonight...i am fed up with my current pediatrician office.  Honestly was going to switch anyways .

    Any advice is welcome.   :'(
