August/September IVF/FET

edited June 2016 in Infertility
Anyone doing IVF or FET in August?  I moved from a July cycle, and the June/July discussion group is so big I can't keep up with everyone.  I thought I would create an August discussion thread if there is any interest...

About me:  This will be my 3rd go-round.  *trigger*  First fresh cycle in 2014 was successful.  My FET in March with our only frozen embryo was not.  I am going to go through my last fresh cycle in August.  Hoping for success!

Re: August/September IVF/FET

  • I was in the June/July group.  My fresh transfer ended up in a BFN so I will be doing a FET on August 22nd.

    me:41 dh:42
me:PCOS, blocked left fallopian tube, hyperprolactinemia  (dh's swimmers are perfect/normal)
Tried 3 rounds of clomid with Ovidrel trigger (BFNs)
May/June 2016 IVF   6/1 ER 7 eggs retrieved, 7 fertilized via ICSI  6 embryos made it to blasts.
6/6 2 AA embryos transfered, 4 BBs frozen
    Beta 6/18  -- BFN
    FET #1 August 22 BFN
Dec 2016/Jan 2017 Round 2 was a bust. 6 eggs, Only 1 embryo made it, no transfer
FET #2 cancelled 10/17 due to uterine polyps. Postponed until 9/2018 due to hip replacement.

FET #3 9/11/18 Uterine scratch and antihistamine protocol/lovenox done this time. 2 AA hatching blasts put in.  BFP 9/20/18!!

  • Hi! I'm on the June/July thread as well - although my ER is set for 2 weeks from now, we're doing all the genetic testing so my FET will be at the end of August or beginning of September.

@stranzm - congrats that you had success in 2014. At least you know it works :) Hope this one is a success as well!

    @sleepym - I remember you from June/July - so sorry about your BFN :(

Cheers to success for all of us!

AFM - we are just old - I'm 43 and DH turns 44 next month. We just happened to meet later in life and no previous children. My RE said IVF is our only hope, so here we are. I had 8 follicles in my ultrasound on Friday and I have zero idea if that is good or not (nurse said it was but Google says otherwise, LOL).

Me: FSH levels all over the place, pre-menopausal
    Him: Low count & motility
    Meds start - Lupron until 6/23, Cetrotide started 6/24, Gonal-F starts 7/1
First ultrasound 6/24 shows 8 follicles with some possibly hiding
    Egg Retrieval - Between 7/9-7/22
IVF #1 canceled due to poor response - 7/12

  • Hello! AF arrived today after my final IUI. I go in for my IVF consultation on Wednesday  and start birth control on Friday. I have a lot of testing to go through for my insurance, so I will most likely be doing IVF in August. Wishing us all luck on this board!

Nice to see a few familiar "faces" again!

I'm also on the June/July board. Still up in the air when my IVF cycle will be, right now it's looking at mid to end of July. We are also doing PGD so I'm assuming it'll be an August FET...

**tw** ETA: AFM - DH is 32 and I'm 31. We had a chemical pregancy last july and an early miscarriage in december. My OB referred us to an RE who ran the whole standard bloodwork panel and we found that I'm a carrier for Fragile X, and with the number of repeats I have, there's a 50% chance that a child of mine will have the full mutation, so my RE skipped us straight to IVF. We are currently waiting (and waiting and waiting) for a genetic probe to be built that will test all the embryos to see which have the FX mutation and which don't. We're almost at the end of the waiting period, so the days seem to be going more and more slowly...lol!
  • @OCfortythree hello.  I think if your RE is happy with the numbers, go with it.  You could get 6-8 good eggs out of those 8 follies.

@caseyw8784 I hope you can get started soon.

@Stars2016 Hopefully all your hoops to jump through for insurance are easy and quick.  My main obstacle is that they will only let me order 1 box of minivelle a week.  luckily I have a few weeks to stockpile them.

Not sure if you remember, but my left ovary was hiding behind my uterus on the day (and week before) of ER, but guess what was right out front during my baseline ultrasound last week.  Ugh...I'm on my BCPs and start lupron in a couple weeks.  Seems forever away.  I stopped caffeine for my transfer last time, so I'm not picking it back up.  My two midnight shifts over the weekend were killer without my mountain dew/red bull.

  • Hi guys! Excited to join this board.  I'm hoping to do my first cycle of IVF in August if everything lines up with my new insurance going through.  I have the time off from work and am crossing fingers and toes that I can make it happen.  I had my IVF info session last night (it was 4.5 hrs!!!), nurse consult and mock transfer next week.  Wishing everyone good luck!!!
  • @sleepyrn - thank you - I guess I should be grateful I don't have zero follies!

@shauna43 - I'm so sorry for your rough road but my prayers are with you and all of us!

@lady_grey - welcome and this is my first IVF as well. My clinic is in contract negotiations with our insurance as we speak but we didn't want to wait for it to all go through because I'm 43 and DH turns 44 in a month. I just shelled out $4400 for my Gonal-F - yikes! We had to finance it - hopefully this all works but if not, round 2 will hopefully be covered by insurance.

    Blessings to all!! xo

@lady_grey- We are at very similar points. I have my consultation tomorrow and mock trial next week. I work in a school and have the summer off so I'm definitely hoping I have IVF in August before going back but I am also waiting for insurance issues to get worked out. Best of luck!
  • @caseyw8784 Haha, thanks!  I'm glad it is appreciated.  I honestly don't even know how I would participate in these threads without a chart, as I wouldn't be able to keep track of anyone!! :)

@wifeinraleigh28 & @Kellyfish79 you'll have to let me know what you think of the Follistim & Menopur! Last night was my first night and it was a little rough. All I keep telling myself is if this works, it'll all be worth it!

  • Thanks for the encouragement, @stranzm. Do you mind me asking how old you are? You mention your age as being a factor. I'm 43 so that's REALLY an issue for me :)

@20T - sorry your first night of Follistim & Menopur was rough. I start Gonal-F tomorrow, Estradiol suppositories tonight and Menopur + Gonal-F on Sunday. What are some of the side effects you're seeing? I think Follistim is similar to Gonal-F.

I hope you all have a great Thursday! xo

@OCfortythree about 20 minutes after the injections I had a headache and just felt really nauseous. I went to bed soon after and still have a lingering headache this morning and a red spot where I injected, but am trying to drink lots of water! I'm hoping that it was more the fact that I'd had an exhausting day and it was hot instead of just the meds.

If anyone has any stimulation med advice, I'd welcome it!

  • hi ladies!  aw man, so i found out some more information from my new insurance... sounds like i have to complete 6 cycles of medication/IUI in order for IVF to be covered, so i won't be joining you for august IVF after all!  need to do 3 more cycles.  such a let down!!

everything was all set for our IVF prep stuff, like our mock transfer and nurse consult are next week.  but now that i have this information, i know i have to change gears.  my clinic is SO not on top of it though.  i emailed them 2 days ago but no response; i thought they would at least get back to me yesterday!!  so i called today because i knew i should get my cycle day 3 ultrasound and labs if i'm going to do clomid/iui again.  the office opens early, but the phone line only opens at 8:30.  i called right at 8:30, the lady scheduled me for 8:45 (and said they stop doing US/labs at 9am!) and i was RUNNING out the door while still on the phone with her.  i made it to the clinic by 9, and they were able to take me back and do it (thank goodness!)

the US tech commented on a complex cyst on my left side - i've never had one of those before so i'm not sure what it means!  i am anxiously waiting for a call back from the office to discuss.  it has been so hard to get a hold of them to nail down a plan.  it seems like everything is really up to me to figure out, and like the office doesn't really even know me or what is going on!

i am frustrated because they are a university associated clinic, so they have university employees like me ALL THE TIME and they should have known that i would need the 6 cycles with this new insurance... but they didn't say anything... so i feel as though i've been wasting time while waiting for it to start.  and they let me get my hopes up!

Grr... sorry for the rant.  i just wish the care team could make things smoother during a difficult time in our lives!  @wifeinraleigh28 it's so great to see you on here!  and to see your lovely organized chart.  @stars2016 i hope you have better luck w/ your insurance stuff than i did!  Good luck to all the ladies on this board :)

Hey Everyone- My June IVF cycle failed and I will be starting over completely in either August or September. I am interviewing another clinic, so that will have some impact on the timing.

My last cycle failed due to poor embryo development, only had 1 blast on Day 5, so we are doing more testing and will have to change the protocol.

Hoping for better results this time!

  • @20T &@OCfortythree This is my 2nd stim cycle with the same meds (Gonal-F & Menopur) so it isn't a completely new experience for me. Gonal-F and Follitism are the same thing, just different brands.  Menopur stings a little going in but nothing too crazy.  I just make sure to breathe!  It's definitely worse if I hold my breath.  As far as side effects, a constant low grade headache was pretty normal for me throughout the process.  I didn't have much nausea or any stomach issues other than feeling really bloated towards the end.  Definitely drink lots of water!  I found that to really help with my energy levels.  Other than that I just felt really strange...it's hard to explain but I just felt off.  Also, I  had to lower my activity level as far as workouts go.  Even just a long walk would wear me out.  Luckily this stim process is only 10-12 days for most of us! :)

Hi everyone! I'm going to join in! I had my ivf consult this morning and if no BFP this month (beta is 7/14) I will be moving right into ivf with retrieval/fresh transfer expected late August/early September. That's a ways off and I know there's a chance (small, but keeping the hope alive!) that I won't be doing ivf but all of the failures before lead me to believe I will be. I'm nervous but am excited for the high success rates! Anyways, just wanted to say hi and connect with everyone!!

@wifeinraleigh28 I've missed your charts!! They really do make things a zillion times easier. :)
  • I'm so sorry about the insurance BS @lady_grey :(  I understand how frustrating delays can be.  IVF was delayed by 3 months for me, for a different reason but I get how you feel.  Maybe doing those 3 extra IUIs will be worth it in the end and you won't even need to do IVF!  There's always a chance :)

Good to see you here @annebenton22!  I hope the new clinic knows what to do so that you are successful this time around :)

@srh18 Welcome to our group, but hopefully you won't need to officially join us!  GL with your beta!  I'm reluctant to add you to our chart right now... but since you posted here I will include you and then will happily remove you if you get your BFP!

@wifeinraleigh28 thank you! I understand your reluctance to add me...I had the same reluctance about joining the group. But then I decided to go ahead so I could connect with everyone and stay updated and be supportive rather than joining in a month and not knowing what everybody was doing. :) I agree though--hopefully I won't have to join officially but I can do my best to be supportive of everyone else in the meantime!!
  • Hi Ladies! I was originally in the June/July group like many of you, but we have been pushed into August.  I was originally schedule for FET #2 for Tuesday, but my RE saw fluid in my lining at my check earlier this week and since FET #1 failed, she wanted to make sure it wasn't an infection and cancelled the cycle.  A negative biopsy told us no infection, so on to the next round we go!!  Instead of Estradiol pills this time, I'm doing patched (new to me) and we're hoping 2nd times the charm!

Happy to see some familiar names and hoping for lots of BFPs for this group!

I don't know if this is the right group, but DH and I are going to start our 3rd ivf cycle in September.  We have been taking a break to let supplements take affect if they are going to do anything. We hope to do a fresh transfer and would love to have some to freeze. It is supposed to be a different protocol, so I'm hopeful and nervous. Good luck to everyone!

  • Hey everyone!

I'm (hopefully) about to kick off stims in a couple days- provided my estrogen has gone down some.

July is going to be a tough month for me for many reasons- emotionally and physically. I'm slated to have my retrieval mid to late July, and then I'll be getting my wisdom teeth out a week or two later. We're doing PGS testing, so our transfer will be further down the road in early September (also because we're going on a roadtrip to California for a couple weeks in early August).

So, waiting for the call to hear about my blood draw today and then stims start on July 4th!

  • Thought I'd post a little update.  Went to meet with the RE on Wednesday.  She told me 2 of my frosties didn't survive freezing, so August is my only shot at a FET before having to do the whole cycle over.  She also told me she wants me to lose 10lbs by August 22, and 25 if we are going to have to do another cycle in September.  (Yes, I'm overweight.)  So, I'm meeting with a dietician next week to put together a realistic plan for me.  She works with a lot of people with odd schedules, to try to put together plans that don't require midnight shift people to change their waking and sleeping hours.  Hopefully she can help me a little. I already gave up caffeine and pop from the last cycle, so I'm hoping that will help me shed a few of those 10lbs.

  • @sleepyrn that's great to know about the meds, thanks - I am hopeful. I actually start the Gonal-F tonight (I thought it was this morning). Also, sorry about the issues you're having. I've definitely put on weight since I've stopped working out as much as I had been (my RE said I had to quit spin class, which I'd been going to 5-6X per week) - I'm trying to stick with lean protein and tons of veggies/fruit. It's easier said than done - for some reason I'm craving frozen yogurt all the time, which is a lot of sugar. Keep your chin up! It sounds like what you're already doing will help.
