Hi all...please be kind, this is my first post and though I've been TTC since November 2014, I've only had to take a handful of pregnancy tests. Every other time, I've gotten my period, eliminating the need to test.
Anyway, my question is simple (maybe?): if you're unequivocally NOT pregnant, is there any chance of seeing a faint (and I mean FAINT) line? I'm wondering if I'm seeing things that really aren't there. Either way, I will re-test in 2 days. This is the first time I believe I've seen ANYTHING resembling a remote positive, but DH and I are so desperate right now, I'm wondering if I'm not just seeing what I want to see
I'm 4 days late, have been suffering from a yeast infection for a week, sleepless, starving, light spotting (but nothing for 2 days). I wonder if the infection could just be throwing me off.
Thanks for reading! Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm hoping not to get chewed out about it!
Yes, this is called an evap line, it is from looking at the test after the testing window (usually around 5 minutes). Wait a few days and test again. Do you chart? How do you know you are 4 days late? Most likely you ovulated late if you are testing negative and you haven't gotten AF.
We have a great support system and there are a lot of people who can provide great insight if you join our daily threads, TWW and WTO!

How do you know you are late? Do you track with basal body temping? Otherwise, with an infection it's possible maybe you ovulated later than you think.
I would think at 4 days past your normal LP that a test would be positive enough not to be a squinter though. Someone else may have more knowledge on that.
@Zoey1019, @houseofsetters I do chart, but will become more involved with it this cycle with basal temps and checking cervical mucus. All I've been doing so far is staying healthy, no caffeine or alcohol, folic acid + other supplements, and very frequent sex. We wanted to make it as little of a "job" as possible until we had to, but after 17 months and with a new house, it's time we get more serious about it. Plus, I'm not getting any younger!
What kind of test have you used for this faint line? FRER's are common to give fake out lines. Even within the timeframe from my own experience and a few other people on the board.
Just a head's up, it is against TOU to ask if you are pregnant, and it kind of makes sense that it goes the same way to ask if you are not pregnant. We just cannot know that anymore than you.

Ditto. Squinters are usually before you're actually late. If you're truly four days late I would think its be a pretty clear line.
OP, I would suggest testing again. Maybe with a digital. Keep testing until you get a positive or your period.
I've seen it said a lot in TTC communities that blue dye tests such as EPT are especially prone to evap lines. I don't know if that is true or not and I've never used a blue dye test so I can't really add my own experiences.
If you're not temping to confirm ovulation you really have no way of knowing if you're late or not. As the others have said if you were actually late it wouldn't make sense for you to be getting squinters. You should be getting a nice obvious line by the time you're actually late, unless you have a short luteal phase or something.
Sometimes on tests you'll also be able to see the indent line where the dye would pool if the test were positive. All tests have indents but they're not supposed to be visible.
If you want a second opinion on the test since you seem to be concerned that you may be seeing what you want to see you can post pictures to the HPT gallery on countdowntopregnancy.com and have people vote on the test. You can also post it to reddit.com/r/TFABLinePorn. Also, thank you for not posting it here.

In my experience, four days "late" is not a questionable line. It's obvious. And yes, of course false positives are possible, they're just very uncommon.
I don't know why you bothered to post since it sounds like you know the only thing to do is test again to verify the result. And if you think there's any chance you're pregnant and you have an infection, I'd definitely recommend getting seen by a doctor or clinic ASAP.
I'll go back to lurking now.

This board is an excellent support system so to avoid future breaches of TOU and to have a lovely experience here I would recommend reading the NEWBIE thread https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12613283/the-ultimate-ttgp-guide-newbies-read-this-first#latest
