Re: TTTC Checkin 04/26/2016 (repost)

  • @wifeinraleigh28 - Good luck with your new cycle!
@lablover78 - So hard not to symptom spot! Sending so many positive thoughts to you right now!
@Plainjanie - Good luck with your new RE and I hope that you feel better!
@Drove2u - Sending so many positive vibes! Exciting news!
@Ducks&Cats - Hoping it shows up soon, that wait can be frustrating!

    UPDATE:
Had an appt yesterday, and I have two 12mm, one 11mm and one 13mm in terms of follicles (@CD11) - so already doing better than last time. My estradiol levels dropped from 350 to 250 so they increased my Gonal-F dose to 100mg from 75mg and I am back on Monday for monitoring. They said my estradiol levels are much better than they were with Clomid, and my follicles are already bigger than they were at CD16 last cycle, so I am feeling positive that I might actually ovulate this cycle! Feeling hopeful and hoping for some big follicles on Monday!

QOTW: As many others on here, my favourite show is also FRIENDS! It's just one of those shows that I can watch over and over and laugh every time <3

Hello. I've skipped a couple of weeks.  Two weeks ago I had the stomach flu and wasn't it the mood to post anything anywhere. ...and this week we hit a road block with our insurance and I have been busy trying to deal with that.  Before we got referred to shady grove fertility center I was told that my insurance covered 50% of infertility excluding ivf.  So we planned to start an iui cycle may 17..give or take a day, BUT on Monday I got a denial letter from kaiser permanente stating that although they do cover infertility, they exclude any surgical means including iui  and and medications related. ..so now instead of it costing around 688$ it will cost us over 1600...and we can't swing that at this time.  We are also getting conflicting information which is frustrating. When I called to get an explanation of my benefits I was told I am covered for iui, but that my obgyn left an important piece of information out of the referral request. So i got in touch with her office they left her a message and she resubmitted the request on Thursday.   So....I emailed shady grove to tell them what I was told about my benefits. ...the financial advisor says that I was given incorrect information and she does not believe I'm covered....so that's where I am now. Trying to figure out if I'm covered or not.  Also looking into loans...but my husband doesn't want to do that.  He wants to wait until open enrollment in October so I can switch to his insurance that covers infertility 50% including iui and ivf with a 10,000$ limit for ivf.....I don't know. ..im just so frustrated right now.

  • @katbb ugggghhhhh insurance companies are so frustrating - but good grief if they don't cover "surgical" things like IUI or medications what on earth is left other than ultrasounds and office co-pays!? I'm sorry you're dealing with that.

  • @katbb that is so frustrating. Doesn't it seem like the most impossible quest to figure out what your insurance actually covers? It's such a guessing game!! I agree with @ceclarlinetlo , if it says it covers 50% of infertility, but not surgery, or medicine, Whats left??? How annoying. I hope you are able to sort through the fine print and find some coverage that is actually useful.
Any chance you can go to a different clinic for IUI? We were quoted $1000 out of pocket for an IUI with oral meds (obviously injectable meds can get a lot more expensive).

It is very frustrating. I was in tears at the beginning of the week. That was exactly my question! ...if you don't cover iui or meds what is left that you cover 50% of???? It doesn't make sense!  When I asked this I got transferred to the general manager of the benefits department where I was told these things are covered, but that my dr didn't put the right info...but I'm still lost because tell financial specialist who deals with insurance every day all day says that my paperwork leads her to believe by the way things are worded that iui is not included, but was, a little confused as well because in righting there is conflicting info.  So i guess all I can do is wait and see if this second referral request goes through.  I also wrote an appeal letter the very next day...so happy that will help. I can't go to any other clinic because I have kaiser permanente insurance, and they only refer patients to shady grove fertility center. ..they are affiliated somehow....which sucks because although I have heard great things about shady grove and I liked the dr I will be working with,  I keep reading about more affordable options.
  • I hope it all works out for you @katbb it sounds like maybe if the Dr. codes it differently it might be covered? I don't really understand much about how insurance companies code things, but I really, really hope you are able to get the IUI you were hoping for. :)

  • Hi ladies! I'm back after taking several cycles off to clear my head and get mentally in a better place after 3 failed IUIs and a failed ICSI last year. We're deep in the thick of our second ICSI, but I'm still a poor responder (fsh was 14.9 this cycle) and hubs still has poor morphology (even worse at 3% last week!). We are triggering tonight for ER on Tuesday. I have 5 follies at 18.5 x 2, 17.5, 17, and 15.5, with another 2 at 14 and one at 11.  Last time I had only 4 total, so the DHEA appears to have maybe helped a bit! I've been on 250 gonal f and 150 follistim for 9 days and ganirelix for 5 days. Fingers crossed for good luck this time around!
@katbb you're lucky the insurance covers anything at all- ours is 100% out of pocket. It's really a shame that infertility is not recognized as a medical condition, right??! I wish we had a similar system to other countries that cover a limited number of treatments like IUI and IVF, because adding the financial stress just makes it that much harder!

Planning to go for Ivf. AF came a day early. Didn't symptom spot this time so irrationally thought may be KU. DH was unwell so didn't visit the Ivf doctor my gynae works with. So sitting this cycle out. DH still hopes we can swing it with TI this time. My CM has not been EW for a while so I'm doubtful, but will give it a go. There's a famous doc in Bombay we might consult next month as a backup. Am getting fed up! Have a friend going through similar trouble so we have phone pity parties.

  • AF showed up yesterday, so tomorrow I get to start birth control again to get ready for the partial ICSI cycle, Hopefully after all of this and the PGD testing, we will have at least 1 good embryo.

@RessaAnne16 - I never had the day 21 bloodwork, just day 3.  But def. check with your RE :)

@Katbb I am sorry it is all so confusing!  Ive had to deal with issues like that - not with ivf, but with things for my mom's health.  In my experience, no one ever has all the information, and the rules constantly change, so people are giving information to the best of their knowledge.  (My mom likes to say "Well, it's a sunny Thursday, so they have to use the sunny Thursday rules").  I hope it gets figured out soon!

    TTC since 2011

  • Sorry about AF @ReesaAnne16 :(  I've never had CD 21 blood work either, and didn't have CD 3 blood work until my clinic wanted to make sure I qualified for the clinical trial.  All I had was an HSG and a bunch of ultrasounds.  I guess all of these tests are a good idea though, and I hope you get some good results!

@katbb That really sucks, I hate insurance companies.  It is all so stressful.  We are completely OOP of IVF which is why we're trying to get into a clinical trial.  Our insurance sucks, but we do get 3 IUIs covered at least.  Hang in there!

@katbb that is so incredibly frustrating....why can't everyone just be more helpful.  I think the financial advisor should be more helpful as well, I mean you are playing a huge chunk of money out of pocket.  You are a customer and should be getting good service!

@katbb That is so frustrating about the insurance issues! I hope though that they figure things out soon and that you are in fact covered for the IUI. I'm also a patient at Shady Grove and have had a good experience so far.

@iloverocksalot Best of luck to you this cycle!

@starlitfae Sorry to hear about AF, good luck with your partial ICSI cycle!

@ReesaAnne16 CD 3 bloodwork was how I found out I had a thyroid issue. It tests several other things that could cause complications too, so I definitely think it's worth looking into! Sorry about AF, good luck to you next cycle!

  • Post #2:
An update from today - today I left the fertility clinic in tears because I went from a 13mm, two 12mm and an 11mm to three 11mms only...and they started to talk to me about abandoning another cycle due to no follicle growth. However, they checked my estriadol levels and they have actually increased, so they increased my Gonal-F dose to 125mg....I am happy they haven't given up hope yet and that my levels have gone up, but the lack of follicle growth is scary....especially because of how expensive this cycle has been, and we only have so much money to work with before we hit a wall. This is the first time I've lost hope, and I must say....it sucks. If anyone has been through or knows about a similar situation or has any advice I would love to hear it. My next appt is Wednesday, and I am desperately hoping that we don't have to abandon this cycle....what I wouldn't give to just ovulate!

PS: Sorry for the vent session! <3

  • @StephyM89 as a fellow poor responder I understand how frustrating this is! I hear of women getting a dozen or more eggs and I'm over here lucky to have just a few. What was your CD 2/3 FSH number? If it's high (like mine, at 14.9 this cycle) they will probably increase your doseage of Stims. I was on 400 iu of Gonal f (250) and follistim (150)... My first scan showed 9 follicles, which dropped to 8 a couple days later. It's taken a while but I'm slowly accepting the fact that it may take quite a few more cycles to get it to work! With 2 years of ART under my belt now, it's been a pretty long journey... And I know that even with all the best medicine has to offer, we all still need mother nature to cooperate!

For ICSI #2, I just had my egg retrieval surgery this morning and all things considered it went really well. They recovered 6 eggs, three of which were mature. We find out tomorrow if any fertilize.
  • @ceclarlinetlo - Thank you so much for the kind words! <3 I hope not either.
@ReesaAnne16 - Very true Reesa! I am already feeling a bit better after reading these comments and speaking to someone else I know....it's nice to know that there are more options! Thank you! <3 It is difficult not to give in sometimes.
@iloverocksalot - It is so frustrating! They didn't tell me my FSH number on CD2/3 - but I am hoping they just start me off on a higher dose next cycle if they can! I think you are completely right, and I need to be more patient for it to work. It would be so much easier if it wasn't so expensive.....but I am glad that I'm not alone <3 Thank you! Good luck tomorrow! Let me know tomorrow if any fertilize!! xo
