April Symptoms

I know July 16 has a thread like this, thought it might be interesting to have a place to discuss symptoms. What are your current symptoms? Anything strange? Any questions?

Re: April Symptoms

  • For me, recently it's been constipation! Ugh!! Started taking stool softener and I really hope that helps.  My sciatic nerve on my right side started acting up this week too. I'm really not looking forward to that. I went to the chiropractor and do yoga regularly and it comes and goes! I also use a snoogle, not sure if that's helping or not.. Other symptom recently had been a really hard stomach. I'm hoping it's nothing to serious with the twins or Braxton hicks. I feel it's pretty early for that!

I have been really really tired. I've also started having some heartburn recently. Constipation/gas/digestive issues plague me throughout pregnancy. @tmk0325 my braxton hicks have already started. It's pretty normal and right now it just feels like my stomach gets really tight for a few seconds.

I would say my weird symptoms are really vivid crazy dreams and out of control cravings. The bakery manager at costco told me they were out of almond poppyseed muffins and i seriously considered driving 20 miles to the other store to get them.

  • @tmk0325 I feel you on the constipation!! I had to go to the ER a couple weeks ago for severe fecal impaction/constipation. (Sorry for the TMI). Colace will be your best friend. If that doesn't help get it going, my OB told me to take milk of magnesia. It works wonders.

My symptoms are pressure against my lower back and tailbone (could be the constipation) and joint pain in my hips/where my legs connect to my bottom. Killing me.
  • My lower stomach has been aching constantly. It's worse today I think LO might be hitting a growth spurt or my belly is because this RLP is no joke. I carried DD high but I can already tell this baby is low!
  • @Lynnlove28 my RLP has been so bad the last couple of days too! I don't know what's happening in there, but this LO must be growing at warp speed!

@tmk0325 I've been having Braxton Hicks since 17 weeks with this one, so it's totally possible. My doctor said it's normal for them to start earlier with your second baby so I'm chalking it up to that. I also had them pretty frequently with my first so it may just be the way your body gets ready.

  • @Bookhousegirl and @cm716 I'm kind of hoping it's only Braxton hicks and not TTTS (twin to twin transfusion syndrome), since I'm probably over halfway in the twin scope of things it very well could be. We see the maternal fetal doctor tomorrow and I can't wait. I love my OB but she's very relaxed and I know I have some additional questions that would be better for the specialist.

@alyssajrob22 I've only taken the collace for 3 days and I can already tell it's working. This might be TMI but I've had a fissure in the past and a poliniadal cyst so I've have butt issues before, knowing this I should have started it much earlier!!

  • This child thinks my bladder is a pillow, I swear. Both recent ultrasounds show him head down, snuggled right up. And I have to pee like every half hour. Sometimes when I'm asleep I can make it a whole hour!

  • @lgem4 my baby loves using my bladder as a trampoline too! She'll randomly kick me in the bladder and I have to run to the bathroom so I don't pee myself. I also think it's funny. Just glad to feel her moving.

For those of you experiencing Braxton hicks, what does it feel like? The past week I've been having a sharp pain that spreads across my uterus and almost feels like a tightening but it only lasts for a few seconds before going away. I freaked out the first day I felt it but since then have been trying not to worry because I assumed it was either Braxton hicks or maybe the baby kicking something that causes that pain.
  • Back pain! It's crept up gradually, but the last 5 days or so it's been bad, keeping me from sleeping and getting around like normal. And it's spreading into my hips and legs. Yoga this morning helped, but definitely didn't cure it! I think it's because baby and I have had a major growth spurt in the last few weeks. I signed up for an extra yoga class this week, but I will probably look into massage and chiropractic next. I really hope this isn't the new normal for me.
  • Anyone else having pelvic pain (SPD)?  I had it with my first pregnancy too, so I expected to have it this time, but it is still annoying!  It basically feels like I've been kicked in the pelvic/vag region whenever I walk or have to pull my legs together after being separated.  Blah.

Thankfully all of the rest of my bad pregnancy symptoms -- nausea, exhaustion etc have mostly subsided..

  • WELL I AM EXPERIENCING LOTS OF MOVEMENT AND SEEMS LIKE I HAVE TO GO PEE A LOT, OVER THE WEEKEND I HAD MY STEP SON AND HE SLEPT IN BED WITH ME HIS ONLY 4YRS OLD AND HE MOVES IN HIS SLEEP AND SLIGHTLY KICKED MY BELLY AND HIS SISTER KICKED BACK THAT I WOKE UP FROM SLEEP AND I WAS FINALLY DOSING OFF IN MY SLEEP
  • My belly button area! Ouch.
I don't remember this from last time. Maybe it's as a result of my gallbladder surgery and the incisions are stretching. But it's hurting to bend and sensitive to bumps and touches.
  • My hands/fingers are numb and tingling.
    All. Night. Long.
It doesn't seem to matter what position I'm in, and when I wake up in the morning it takes 10 minutes for me to shake them out and get some feeling back.
I've read that it helps to sleep with your hands propped up, but seriously? How is that logistically supposed to happen when I have to sleep on my side too??  Lol I can just picture myself with carefully propped up hands, laying on my side in the perfect position, just about to fall asleep - then BAM I have to pee and ruin everything!

I haven't had the tingling yet, but for the life of me I can't seem to figure out where to place my arms/hands either when I sleep and i'm a side sleeper normally... I hear you about having to pee... It never fails, every time I get comfortable I have to get up again. We used to sleep with the door shut and it kind of squeaks, so now I resorted to sleeping with it wide open all the time.

  • My hands and feet are swelling, and my wedding rings are starting to bother me after a day of typing. Booo.

I'm thinking about buying a relatively cheap CZ set a size or two larger just for the next couple months. It feels weird to just take them off!!

  • @PineappleMD and @tmk0325 Have you tried or do you hold a pillow while you sleep?  It doesn't always help me, but could help!  Also, carpal tunnel splints/wrist braces might help.  If none of that works, I'm going to a chiropractor because this started for me after DS was born and only got worse as he was older and had to carry him around!

  • @mmclark10 I have the snoogle pillow so I've been using that!

  • I have constantly tired, can't sleep well, sciatic and lower back pain and my right hand is constantly numb and tingling. But the 2nd trimester is a breeze!   :D

For other posters who mentioned numb and tingling hands, my midwife compared it to carpal tunnel. You body is inflamed and swollen so it affects the nerve pressure in your wrist(s). She said the carpal tunnel braces from the drugstore can help to wear at night so I'll be giving that a try this week.
  • For the past 2 days, my belly has felt like it could tear right open at any minute! I'm not sure if it is the stretching,  or what, but gosh does it hurt!  I lathered my belly up with lots of extra Shea Butter lotion last night and it feels better today!  It better not be stretch marks starting already!!! LOL
  • Anytime my bladder gets slightly full, this little boy will kick it until I go pee. I know he's hanging out low but really kid, a couple of times I've almost peed myself from the kicks! I guess the frequent bathroom trips will start super early with this one.
  • Feel great most of the day and by 9:00 I am exhausted. I can't even move.

and Braxton hicks have started. I started getting contractions last night, called the doctor, and since they lasted more than an hour they had me come in to L&D. Luckily it was in fact what we all thought, just Braxton hicks, and I was in and out pretty quickly.

It was crazy you could actually see my stomach tense and release, and I had no control over the movement! At least it didn't hurt (yet) more like mildly uncomfortable and a little disconcerting.

  • I'm just so tired but I have my hands full right now. Hubby says he can see my legs retaining water. Basically they look puffy. I have to pee at least 4 times at night. I've had some pain in my stomach but I think that's due to stressing out. Other than that I am good.

  • I pee 3 or 4 times a night. Sneezing is also incredibly dangerous for my underwear. Still really exhausted and I want to eat every hour. But, I don't feel nauseous and I do feel like the exhaustion is better this week than it was last week.

  • Anyone else feel shortness of breath? Lately I have been feeling that as well. Probably because there are two of them squishing everything in there...

  • @LWC1112 I've started carrying a spare pair in my purse.

  • @Allisun85 That is a smart move. I'm going to do the same. Seasonal allergies are killing any last bit of bladder control I had.

Once in a while if I stretch to far or move in the wrong way I get super sharp RLP, especially on the right side.  That's the same side I had hip problem on after DD, so I'm not surprised.  I'm also starting to have a hard time holding DD for long period of time.  She's 30lbs, which doesn't sound like a lot, but when she wants to be held constantly and I'm trying to make dinner or something she gets heavy really fast.  She gets pissed when I hand her off to DH, but it is what it is.  Finally, I'm just starting to feel heavy in general.  I never got the heavy sensation with DD, not even toward the end, but she was up super duper high.  I'm carrying this baby super duper low, and all the heaviness is down in that area, obviously, and sometimes it makes me feel like I need to sit for a minute even if I'm not out of breath or anything, just an overwhelming feeling of heaviness.  Honestly, though, none of these symptoms are really all that bad or unexpected, so I really can't complain.  I can still sleep on my somach so BONUS because I'm a total tummy sleeper.  I think I made it to about 20 weeks with DD, so I'm a little past that this time - probably because I'm carrying much lower this time.  Other than that I've actually been feeling totally fine, I sometimes am so busy I forget that I'm pregnant!

tmk0325 I started getting BH early with DD, like before 25 weeks - that's the first time I remember having them because that's when I figured out what it was I was feeling, but I was getting them before that.  So it's totally possible that it's BH already.  I'm sure everything is fine!  I've also been experiencing shortness of breath from the very beginning.  My BP is fine, so I know it's not that.  I think that's just a fun pregnancy symptom I get to experience the whole time.

It just feels like tightening and your belly gets really hard.  It really doesn't hurt.  The further along you get the more intense they get.  Around 35 weeks they would sometimes take my breath away, but still nothing painful, just lots of pressure and hardness, but I would have to breathe through it.  They would happen a lot when I was just sitting while driving or at my desk at work.  Mine started before 25 weeks with DD, and that was only when I realized what it was I was feeling, so they can happen pretty early.  I haven't had any yet this time, but I'm sure it'll be any day now that I'm almost 22 weeks with #2.

That would happen to me, too, with DD.  My stomach would tense and look all weird and pointy sometimes during BH contractions.

  • @SkiChic626 That doesn't quite sound like what I'm feeling so maybe I'm not getting Braxton hicks. I've had so many different aches and pains while pregnant that I guess it could be anything! I am getting a tightening but nothing feels hard when it happens and I also get a sharp pain at the same time.

@tmk0325 I have been feeling shortness of breath since late in my first trimester. I think because of the extra blood flow. It's been that way ever since. Now I'm also starting to feel the pressure of things moving up so it's making it feel even more uncomfortable!
  • I can finally feel more movement and I'm having more restless nights.  I will get up to pee, get a drink, I'll hear the dog bark, my hands will be asleep - everything wakes me up!
  • I have just been having pressure in my lower belly the past few days. I'm assuming this is RLP? I sneeze and I feel like my uterus is exploding. I've had a few people I've mentioned it to say it just gets worse. That's always fun to hear.

@Hannah0726 Drink three big glasses of water in an hour and see if it gets better. That's what my midwife had me do when I was complaining about it.

  • @Allisun85 Thanks! I'll try it.
  • Been having a lot of RLP lately...seems worse than with my DD. Sometimes I can't stand up strait, anyone else get it that bad? Also having some heartburn, back pain, I'm irritable and lots of food cravings lol. Just got over wafffles, now onto confetti cake...so random lol
  • I've been having insane charley horses in my calves and feet. I'd say I have two or three a day easily. It's usually at night time when I lay down in bed. Sometimes I don't get the charley horse, but get that tingly feeling you get right before and it will last for hours. :/
  • Unable to sleep......and YES! My tingling hands!!! Why??!!
  • I slept through the night two nights in a row! Holy crap! I think it's because I'm not in my bed with my SO rolling around and pulling my covers off of me. On a girls trip and I have a king sized bed all to myself. Makes me think we need to invest in a king sized bed.
