Re: Random Thoughts Thread

  • Thanks @createillumination. I've been drinking lots of water and keeping my feet up since I noticed it. I read an article a while back about salt not causing pregnancy swelling. I didn't realize having more would help. And I didn't know about protein. I will give those a try.

  • Just got off the phone with my aunt and maternal grandma. My grandma went into the hospital on Thursday and is pretty much non-responsive. They are meeting with hospice this afternoon. She is 94 and has not been herself for a long while. But I'm taking it pretty hard. We are really close. It is going to be a major loss to our family. Our baby girl will have my mom's maiden name as her middle name, so I am glad we can honor my grandma that way. Weird that I will probably lose my two remaining grandparents in the space of two months. Ugh.

  • @Sporty1216 that is too much for one person to handle! I'm so sorry, I don't think that there is much I can say that can make it better but I'll be thinking of you and sending love.  :'(
  • Sending all my hugs @sporty1216. Will you be able to see your grandmother? Hopefully you're heading to the comforts of your home soon.

  • Thanks, all. It's pretty crazy. I'm so grateful that we had such a good relationship for so many years. I was with her when my grandpa died. That was one of the most intimate experiences I have ever had with another person. I wish I could be there with her now, but it's just not super feasible since she is in Oregon, half a country away from me. I'm so glad I got to talk to her today. I believe she could hear me. It's a lot of loss in a short period of time--and each one hard for opposite reasons: not close, very close. Anyway. Ready to head home tomorrow for sure.

    Thanks for your kind words.
  • I'm sorry @Sporty1216.  That IS a lot of loss.  Hang in there.  You're in my thoughts.

  • @Sporty1216 I'm so sorry to hear this news! As you know, I lost my beloved grandmother a couple of months ago, and it's just really hard. I think you can honor her memory by telling your kiddos about her and passing along her values and lessons that you connected with. I'll be thinking of you during this difficult time.
  • Just got some fold over top maxi skirts that were on sale on old navy's website. Oh. My. Word. They are so light and comfy! I'll be wearing these all summer. I hope they hold up! Got a shorter nursing dress too--really hoping that fits and works post-partum, like the skirts should. Just in time--the humidity is setting in around here. :(
  • Niiicccee @Sporty1216! We've been stuck in some serious may grey here for weeks, summer seems so far away :s but at least it's not too hot.
  • Ok. I'll stop going on about this, but wearing these skirts is almost better than pajamas! I just need a thigh-chafing solution. Tried rubbing a little deodorant on there, but I'm not sure I want to do that all the time. Other suggestions?
  • @Sporty1216 I have the same problem with Maxis and I LOVE THEM. I use cornstarch baby powder for my chub rub.
  • I got a dress a while back that's loose and soft for late in the pregnancy when I thought I might not fit anything else. Well, my maternity shorts are already starting to get tight around the waist (under-belly ones) so I wore it yesterday. I want to wear it every day and every night for the next 66 days! I don't want to be like one of those old ladies that wears mumus all the time, but...I get it now.

  • Oh, man, @CarrieandRoy ! Mumus are a great idea!
  • Embrace the mumu. I have 2 of them and I wore them all last summer too.
  •  I had a loud rumbly tummy last night and it was so weird to hear the rumbling coming from the sides of my abdomen way high above my belly button. It was pretty amusing! Baby has taken over where the intestines should be! :D

Oh  I have a funny story about a mumu. When my sister was pregnant my grandma gave her this enormous mumu tshirt when she was around five months. She took one look at it and was super offended, thinking she would never wear it ( my grandma gives us some pretty ridiculous gifts.) Well in her last couple weeks she ended up needing to wear it, she broke down crying because she had to wear the enormous grandma mumu. I'm sure she didn't appreciated it, but I thought it was pretty funny that she ended up wearing the mumu!! As for me....bring on all the ginormous mumu's come august!!
  • That's super funny, @createillumination ! Did she hang on to it? Maybe she can send it your way!
  • Omg @Sporty1216 I didn't even think if that. we should pass it onto all the grandkids as the cerimonial pregnancy mumu, like a rite of passage.

My LO has started this thing where he has to rearrange the pillows on his bed and his blankets about a thousand times before he will fall asleep. It's sorta cute, but it also drives me insane. Just SLEEP dude.

ETA: the undeniably cute part is that he will lie on his stomach, reach around and pat his bum in order to get me to do it so he can fall asleep. I love that.
  • Swaddle blankets make excellent warm weather blankets. For me
     That is all!
  • Love swaddle blankets! And so does he. I totally want a big one for myself! That Muslin is soooo soft and cozy.
  • I feel like baby has decided to snuggle up at the very bottom of my belly this evening. It is not comfy. The old wives tale is that you carry girls high, but I am absolutely carrying her lower than I did my son. I wonder, maybe it has to do with being a STM? Any others having girls and carrying really low?
  • I think I carried high with my daughter @Sporty1216, but you might be on to something with STM because I feel like this pregnancy I'm carrying SO much lower.  People are saying I've "dropped" already and my response is that it's been like this from the beginning.  I feel like the babies are punching my cervix!!  :(

  • @Sporty1216 I swear my girl is EVERYWHERE. High, low, both sides. Her butt will stick out in the upper half of my belly as I feel her digging around in my pelvis. I think she knows there's an escape tunnel on the other side of the wall.

  • Has anyone been told they have a low-lying placenta?  Mine has been low the whole time and the doctor has been telling me it will probably be further away by the time I deliver.  At 28.5 weeks it was an inch from my cervix. I got the impression he thought it would move more by then, but he assured me he doesn't think it will be a problem.

Last night, it seriously felt like she was trying to dig her way out through my lower abdomen, @carrieandroy! So uncomfortable!

And, I had a low-lying placenta with my son. It moved up by the time they checked again--at 32 or so weeks, I think? I bet yours will move too. Someone on my BMB gave the analogy of a dot on a balloon. As the balloon expands the dot "Moves up"--I guess the same thing can happen with your placenta!
  • My doctor said the placenta doesn't actually move, but that the uterus grows downward, which makes it appear to move. Similar to the balloon metaphor. Mine has been low at every check-up so far, though. I'd love for it to be more than an inch away next time, just for peace of mind.

  • Baby boy has been punching or kicking my rectum, bladder and what feels like vagina walls for the past couple of days! What's super duper fun is being punched in the rectum while on the toilet. ;)

@CarrieandRoy I hope you see some nice movement of the placenta by the next time you are checked! Thank goodness it isn't previa and blocking the cervix!
  • It is a gorgeous day out and I should really take LO for a walk. But it's been a hectic week and I just can't muster it. So he is in his pajama shirt and a diaper and we are sitting on the couch listening to Thomas the tank engine music, at his request. I did manage a shower, but only because I have a work function this afternoon.
  • Just got a call from my mom. My beloved grandma passed about an hour ago now. I am sad, but I also didn't want to see her linger how she was. She never got to meet my son in person and won't meet my daughter either. I will definitely tell them all about her. She was a wonderful woman who taught all of us so much about unconditional love.
