Hi all! We are TTC after a natural miscarriage in August with no D&C. I had one regular period after so my OB didn't seem concerned. However, my periods have ceased to exist so after Christmas I called and got an appt. the first week of January. After running a ton of blood work they discovered that I have hypothyroid...which they told me could have been the cause of my miscarriage. They put me on medication and referred me to an endocrinologist. I am coming up on my appt. with the endocrinologist and I got a phone call yesterday from my OB's physician assistant. She told me that after reviewing my case further they are concerned that I may have Asherman's Syndrome and they wanted me to start prometrium immediately to try and force a period. I had heard of Asherman's a month earlier in her office when they made a point to mention that it was NOT Asherman's because I haven't had a D&C. When she called yesterday she didn't explain anything about Asherman's and told me that I could research it to find out more. Now I am freaking out because from what I have read the outlook on having a biological child after Asherman's isn't great. Has anyone else had any experience with this that they'd be willing to share?
I haven't been diagnosed with Ashermanns syndrome, but I've been really concerned about it the month after my D&C because my body was revving up for a period and then just stopped and menstrual fluid was stuck in my uterus. It was super painful for a few days. It eventually broke out on its own but it was a one day heavy bleed. One month later, the same thing happened so I went back and my Dr assured me that my hormones were out of whack and it would get better.2 days later I had the heaviest period ever over 4 days, so now I feel more willing to believe her that I'm okay.
In your case, I'm sure they are just ruling out Ashermanns at this point. It sounds much more likely that your issue is hormonal to me at least. Have you had any other surgeries or pregnancies that could have caused scarring? Have you been temping? if you have and your charts haven't followed the normal follicular phase/luteal phase patterns, it sounds like you are just having a long anovulatory cycle.
From what I've read, there are many levels of Ashermanns and most women who have it need to have a hystercopy to remove the scar tissue, but go on to have healthy pregnancies! If you do end up having it, make sure you find a surgeon who specializes in treating Ashermanns. Good luck!!
