I don't usually get excited for Christmas, but this year I'm pumped! We have saved enough money from spending time living with parents, so we can afford good gifts. And with LO, I am determined to make the holidays fun for him.
I am particularly excited for the robes we got my FIL and step-MIL embroidered with Opa and Oma. They always talk about the robes at a hotel they stay at on vacation, and they have been excited to be called Oma and Opa since before LO was born. I've had their gift planned since May!
I need help thinking of a good gift for my mom and MIL. What are you ladies giving your mothers and MILs? Those ladies do sooo much for LO and DH and me that I really want to do something special for them. They're not really jewelry wearers.
My mom never really gets good gifts. So this year, DH and I got her an Apple Watch. She wants one soooooo bad but knows none of her kids can afford one and my dad won't want to buy one for her either. She'll be very happy, and that makes me so happy! She's a wonderful, giving woman who does so much for everyone else and deserves something nice for herself!
We're getting LO the Minnie Mouse walker, the vtech sit and stand walker, that roll and crawl ball or whatever, and some other little toys. We are also wrapping a fisher price activity center thing that we got at a baby shower, because she's old enough to use it now and she doesn't know it's regifted. Ha. Grandparents are getting her a big play pen gate thing and a foam play mat. Also, blocks, etc.
For my mom we got nespresso pods, a new glass chip and dip bowl, and an external hard drive for all of her photos. MIL is impossible to buy for. She says she doesn't need anything and to contribute what we would spend on her to LOs Ameritrade fund. We are getting her a framed photo of our little family, Polaroid film (that's right), and a coffee mug with LOs picture.
For LO we spent about $25 on little things. Rings, a suction cup toy for her high chair, a surfing penguin for her tub, etc. We requested the grandparents just contribute towards her Ameritrade fund.
The tradition we do is all of my siblings, and our spouses go in on a secret Santa. And LO has a matching "Merry Christmas you filthy animal" shirt to wear on Christmas with us.
I am excited about the personalized toy box that Santa is making that matches the one DS has (but is pink lol)... Also I got this awesome lightning deal on Amazon of a small enclosed trampoline that I am going to fill with balls like a ball pit... Will be a combo gift and should be a big hit under tree!
I work at a bookstore, so everyone knows to expect books. We're not planning to do much for LO since he won't really know what's happening yet and our families will get him a lot. But we do want to start a tradition for him: maybe a book we inscribe and a new set of PJs for Christmas Eve.

This is what I did for my son but now I have to put on the whole Santa show so I need even gifts lol

I'm going to buy my babes the Caldecott winner each year.
DH and I are each getting LO a gift and not telling the other what it is. I got LO the rocking elephant from pottery barn. From Grandparents we asked for a sit & stand (walker) toy and an outdoor baby swing. He's the first grandchild on DH's side, and his parents are divorced so it's two sets. Then we have my brother & sister in law and dad & step mom. I'm slightly worried our house will look like a toy store after Christmas.
I'm getting DH a cooler he wants for his "man cave" in our garage. I'll probably fill it up with beer for him too.
DH's step mom & I are giving each other soon gift cards and then going to the spa together--hahaha. No clue what to get anyone else, but I am planning on making everyone a Christmas ornament with LO's foot print, so there's that.
We put up all of our decorations this weekend & I'm so excited for this holiday. Since my mom died, the holidays had lost some joy, but LO has brought it all back and then some. So thankful for my little blessing.
So any ideas what I should get my pregnant sister? She just entered second trimester. What did we all want back in the day... A prenatal massage maybe?
@hoodoll82 I would have wanted baby things or a gift card to Destination Maternity or something. Or a comfy pair of shoes or slippers for my big feet, but she might not be at that point yet.
We're doing a photo calendar of LO to give the grandparents. I put together some ideas from Pinterest and bought a few things to create themes for each months photo. I'm excited to see it come together!
@hoodoll82, if she's showing or starting to show, maybe a gift card for maternity clothes. Some sort of spa gift card would be nice too, so she can pick having a pre-natal massage, pedi, etc.
Great ideas! My brother works in the beauty industry so I'll ask him for a good spa recommendation close to her. She's picky about clothes so maybe a gift certificate otherwise.
We've bought a few toys for LO along with a jolly jumper, that sucker came out early though, it was much needed as a distraction from his teething pain, poor babes.
This year I'm excited to give my dad a fitbit for Christmas. He has some health concerns and he's stubborn, although he's competitive so a little competition between he, my sis and I will be fun.
As for traditions, once LO's older perhaps going through old toys the few nights before Christmas to choose some that can be donated would be nice.
I also love the idea of when you're shopping for kiddo to stick too ' something you want, something you need, something to wear and something to read'. Good guidelines to keep things to a limit.
In preparation for Christmas DS picked out all his toys that could be recycled (broken toys)... He had so much trouble getting rid of them but since he is really into recycling he was able to understand that he needs to get rid of those things that are no longer useful... I told him that all his broken toys are recycled by Santa into toys for boys and girls that don't have any toys and some into new toys for him (ok so I lied a little bit but I am teaching him to recycle and to care for others who don't have as many toys as he does ....)... Unfortunately he made it a point to actually recycle his toys as in walk them into the recycle bin and watch the truck take them away ... So some of those things were probably better suited for the garbage lol
What are you getting dh? Need some ideas, I'm at a loss this year
I got DH a nice sweater that he wanted, a mini crockpot lunch warmer since he doesn't have access to a microwave at work, and 93,000 shower jelly from lush. It's supposed to help relieve sore muscles. We keep our limit to $50.
@cait7425 picture coffee mug is a perfect idea for my mom, thanks! still need something else but that solves my question about what to do with the photo of her kids and grandkids that we have from Halloween
^^shutterfly has tons of deals right now. I just bought both grandma's picture coffee cups and picture ornaments, and they were 40%off with free shipping, and I just got a notification to use promocode "CYBERDEAL" to get and additional 25%off
I got DH a Ryobi radio from Home Depot. It's blue tooth accessible and comes with an extra battery that fits with his other Ryobi tools. He knows he's getting it. It was about $60.
LO is getting a few toys/clothes and we're opening a savings account for him
I have to figure out something for our parents and my niece. My sister and I decided not to gifts for each other this year or each other's husbands.
We did a Christmas photo shoot so I may do a photo book or calendar for them. I like the photo mug idea for MIL, though.
I wasn't planning on getting LO anything but cyber monday Amazon had a vtech walker light up toy and a stacking block and ring set for really low prices so I figured it would be nice to have her have two presents. I'm sure she won't care and will get stuff from grandparents (neither are the spoiling with gifts type though). DH and I don't exchange gifts because 1)I'm cheap 2) I don't have time to think of something to get him 3) I'm cheap 4) if we want something in life we are both really realistic in purchasing it. Neither of us buy things we don't need.
I sound like a whole lotta fun.

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
I think DH bought me a remote car starter. I asked if our car could work with one and he was like "how 'bout you stop askin' questions near Christmas!"

This made me laugh because my DH is cheap and doesn't like to buy pointless stuff except for on Christmas. I'll ask for practical stuff abs he'll say, "That's not a Christmas gift." I am always surprised with what he gets because it's never practical, which is so unlike him. Truthfully, he's like a big kid at Christmas, and he's so excited with LO this year. I keep reminding him that the baby is not going to know what the hell is going on...haha.
The giant popcorn popper arrived yesterday while DH was home. Bummer, he swears he didn't see the sides of the box with the logo plastered all over. On the plus side, he carried it down to the basement for me!

hahahahaha we bought LO the exact same two things from Amazon on Monday. :-)
We got LO a shape sorting toy, a remote, and a phone. He is crazy about phones and remotes, so I'm sure he'll be happy about those. Honestly, he's already got the phone. We're just going to put it in his stocking the night before. He's also got the Nightmare Before Christmas book. We're also starting his college account.
DH is getting new sheets, a rug, and a quilt. I'm getting a bedframe and headboard. Basically we're finishing our bedroom. Lol. He's also getting my rings resized , but I'm not supposed to know about that.
LO loves yelling into things and hearing his voice. So today when I found one of those echo-y microphones, I impulse bought it. It's going to be hard to save it for Christmas. Maybe I will give it to him this week for Hannukah.
My twin 5 yo olds are getting new bikes! I'm so excited and this is their first real big gift we have given them. In the past, it's usually small gifts or a $20 gift. I did a ton of research and decided to go with a Diamondback BMX. Amazon had them way cheap but then we would have to assemble them ourselves. REI also sold them but for $30 more. We decided to buy the REI bc the came assembled, have a tune up and a great return policy. Well, on a whim today I decided to check prices, and they were on sale for the Amazon price! They are also getting Rescuebots, books, TMNT figurine and a game.
LO is getting the vtech walker, a tea pot set and a mini mouse stuffed animal.
My dad just called me practically hysterical because he and my mom found LO "THE PERFECT GIFT OMGGGGGG" (does this reflect that my dad sounded like a 14 yr old girl? hahahaha). They got her a BeatBo after hearing kathy lee and hoda talked about it a week or so ago. Does anyone have one of these? The videos online look pretty cool

We booked a trip in March to Belize, sans kids, so that is our gifts to each other!

@slr1229 maybe $10 Starbucks card?
Edited bc the app is doing weird things on my phone

Thanks for the reminder about daycare! Old navy is having 40% off everything today - they have some under $10 scarves and socks
Am I the only one who can't stop shopping today?? So many deals
