Weekly Weigh-In / Fitness check 11.25.15

I feel like we haven't had one of these in awhile and since those of us who celebrate Thanksgiving will be eating all the pie and carbs tomorrow, today seemed like a good day!

Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?

Any challenges you're facing this week?

What's your motivation?

GTKY: Do you take fitness classes? Why/Why not?

Re: Weekly Weigh-In / Fitness check 11.25.15

  • Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?
    142/130

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?
My goal is to go to the gym tomorrow morning before we head to DH's parents' house

Any challenges you're facing this week?
    Thanksgiving, duh. I like carbs.

    What's your motivation?
Be stronger. I need to do more weight training.

GTKY: Do you take fitness classes? Why/Why not?
I am ashamed to admit that I take classes because I am competitive and always try to be the "best" in the class. It motivates me to go hard so I guess its not terrible because it keeps me coming back. Favorite classes are kickboxing and yoga.

  • Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?
    140.9/135
Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?
I'm going to go for a long run tomorrow morning before I eat all the yummy Thanksgiving food. Then I'll just try and minimize the leftovers I take home and keep up the exercising.
Any challenges you're facing this week?
Stuffing, stuffing, and more stuffing. Also biscuits. Yea, I love carbs.
    What's your motivation?
To feel better in my body and to get ready for pregnancy. I have some bad snacking habits that I want to kick before then or I'm afraid I'll gain a ton of weight during pregnancy.
GTKY: Do you take fitness classes? Why/Why not?
Sometimes, my favorite is Zumba and I do that on the most regular basis. I also like Bootcamp. They just help to mix things up because I mostly prefer to run alone.

Thanks for starting this @smmatt08, I just weighed myself this morning because I knew I didn't want to do it after tomorrow, haha.

  • Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week? Physically I feel pretty good.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? I already did two of my regular group exercise classes this week. I might go to another one tomorrow morning, but I'm not sure. If I can, I'd like to squeeze a short run in on Saturday. Nutrition wise: Don't eat like shit after Thanksgiving. ;)

Any challenges you're facing this week? Thanksgiving, obviously.

    What's your motivation? Feeling good

GTKY: Do you take fitness classes? Why/Why not? I do. I find that I don't challenge myself or push myself hard enough if I go it alone. Plus, group classes introduce me to exercises I wouldn't normally do. Hello, burpees and plank rows!

  • Yay I was JUST thinking about how I wanted to get in on a fitness thread!

Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week? 162/150, I feel bloaty and icky. I can't shake all the German food we ate on our honeymoon a few months ago.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? Cardio 4ish times/weight training 3ish times this week.

Any challenges you're facing this week? Stuffing my face with stuffing tomorrow.

What's your motivation? My clothes are almost to the point of not fitting, and that feeling is a bummer.

GTKY: Do you take fitness classes? Why/Why not? No, I don't like being in front of others. I think it goes back to taking ballet, I took it for 10 years at a studio that fed into a company, it was pretty serious. They were really strict. Then I went from 5'4 to 5'11 almost overnight and my muscles couldn't really keep up. I guess the perfectionism stuck with me. So long story short, no classes for me.

  • @mrsdee15, I went to germany a few years ago, and I swear I gained 10-15lbs on that trip.  I feel like it took me 2 years before I got it under control again!  I hope you can bounce back and not feel icky any more!!

Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week? 130 today, with no real goal in mind, just to maintain.  I'm feeling good after reducing my calories for the last few days (trying to save up for the holiday lol)

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? Not to drink my face off on Thanksgiving.  I'm ok around desserts and bread, but family + wine = dangerous!

Any challenges you're facing this week?  I think I tore the rotator cuff in my shoulder, and I'm getting an MRI on friday to find out for sure.  If I end up having to get surgery, my whole world is going to flip upside down, because I teach group fitness and do personal training full time. ugh.

What's your motivation?  To inspire and motivate other people.  I live for this!

GTKY: Do you take fitness classes? Why/Why not?  I've been teaching group fitness for about 5 or 6 years.  It is one of my greatest passions!  Classes I've taught include hip hop, kickboxing, pilates/yoga, cycle, and bootcamp.  Unfortunately I don't get to take many classes, since I'm always so busy with other stuff.

    I need this!  Thanks!

Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?  133/125

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? None until after Thanksgiving!

Any challenges you're facing this week?  See above.

What's your motivation? Trying to be healthy for when I'm KU.  Also, I know being overweight can cause issues with ovulation.  I don't need that!

GTKY: Do you take fitness classes? Why/Why not?  I would be totally down to do some fitness classes if I weren't so cheap.  Also, I live in the middle of nowhere.  Maybe the chickens will do Zumba with me.

  • Yay!  Was wanting to participate in this thread but hadn't seen it in a while.

Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?  Feeling ok this week.  Got AF so bloating from last week is going down.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?  Trying not to eat too much circa Thanksgiving.  Also, have been trying to get to the gym at least 3 times, as well as one yoga class weekly.

Any challenges you're facing this week?  Thanksgiving = lots of eating, plus travel means we'll probably have to miss at least 1 gym day.  Also, I made a chocolate chip banana bread and DH hates banana so I now have to eat it myself, which I shouldn't do.

What's your motivation?  I don't really weigh myself, but my pants have been getting tighter, and I don't want to have to go up a size - I'd much rather just try to drop a few pounds.  Also, I have a chronic back issue, and building core strength really helps stabilize it so I have less back pain, so I need to keep up on that.  Finally - need to start eating less sugar.  I've been having a lot of breakouts since going off birth control and I want to see if eating healthier will help with that.

GTKY: Do you take fitness classes? Why/Why not?  I have off and on in the past.  I really enjoy yoga, but only at a studio near me (don't really like the class at my gym) and that can be expensive.  I also like to go to the gym with DH, but he won't go to the yoga studio.  So I am trying to make myself go alone to yoga at least once per week.  I don't love many other fitness classes because they are SO LONG.  Also, ones that have a lot of jumping around seem to aggravate my back.
  • Ladies, thanks for all the positive comments about this thread! It was my first time starting a discussion and I was a little nervous! Do we want to pick a day of the week to more consistently start this?
  • Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week? Feeling okay. Feeling okay. I realized I need to stop drowning my sorrows in alcohol, because it's really screwing with my weight, haha. We did a diabetes project for my Nursing class, and I realized that like 1/3 of my caloric intake is alcohol. It was also a weekend, and a tough one, but it opened my eyes! My goal weight is around 150-160, which is ideal for my height. Let's just say I'm nowhere near that. ;)

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? Eating healthier. Which is hard with the holiday, but I'm going to actually start listening to my body instead of my taste buds. If I can start stopping when I'm getting full and not just eating everything on the plate, it's progress!

Any challenges you're facing this week? Pumpkin pie. Blueberry pie. Banana bread. And all of the turkey sandwiches that come after Thanksgiving.

What's your motivation? I have 8 or so months before we'll be TTC again, and I want to be in a lot better health when that time comes. I figure, if I'm going to be TTA for 8 months, I might as well make use of it so that once we are TTC again, if I get a BFP my risk of health problems for myself and future children is a lot lower than it is right now. Plus. I'm running out of clothes, haha.

GTKY: Do you take fitness classes? Why/Why not? I don't, but I would love to! I was thinking of taking Zumba next semester through my college (we have to take two PhEd classes before graduation) to help kick-start me, but it sadly didn't fit in my schedule. Which is why I haven't taken any classes as of yet; I have no room in my schedule for a regular class.

  • @smmatt08 Maybe on Mondays?  I think it'd be great to do it weekly.

@izza2 Yeah, I'm right there with you on the alcohol - I just love wine so hard.

  • @mrsdee15 -- I love wine, and Redd's, and Smirnoff, and just about anything fruity and sweet, haha. I found a food porn video on Facebook for "Apple Cinnamon Fall Sangria" that I'm going to make for our dinner this weekend (we do Thanksgiving the weekend after). You soak apples and pears in cinnamon whiskey for a few hours, add pinot grigio, seltzer, and apple cider, and then serve - with some apples and pears in the glass, and flourished with a cinnamon stick. I'm really hoping it's good, because DH and I will be drinking it for the next forever if no one drinks any, haha.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? Get back to cooking balanced meals instead of scrounging through the cupboards when I get caught up in work. Or Fallout 4. Mostly Fallout 4. Cracker/pickle sandwiches are not a meal.

Any challenges you're facing this week? Recovering from a nasty bout of bronchitis. I feel weak, generally crappy, and have not brought myself to resume my yoga routine yet.

What's your motivation? To be honest, this week I am motivated by vanity. I look like I had a nasty run in with the Vashta Nerada.

    image

I'm finally feeling well enough to start fixing it though. :)

GTKY: Do you take fitness classes? Why/Why not? Nope. Social anxiety makes group settings difficult, and having the natural grace of a drunk koala makes it worse. I do yoga at home and walk everywhere to stay fit. I am trying to work up the courage to take a dance class in December. It's something I really enjoy, and hopefully I can get into the right headspace to do it again.

  • @izza2  Oh wow, let me know how that sangria turns out!  We are making mulled wine for Christmas, I can't wait.

@DarthFuriosa Totally understand the video game struggle.  We just got Dragon Age: Inquisition, and once I spent an entire day playing Alien: Isolation (in all fairness, that game is HARD).  Not gonna lie, pickle sandwiches sound actually good for some reason.  Literal lol to your drunk koala comment too.

  • Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?
    136.6/135
After that it's fat loss building muscle. I'm starting to see my stomach slim down again so super happy about that!

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?
6 days of exercise. Preferably 2-3 fasted cardio. (Accomplished 2 this week!)

Any challenges you're facing this week?
Thanksgiving last night and I have a second one today. On Monday night I'm also leaving to Zanzibar for 5 days with one of my best friends.

    What's your motivation?
    Confidence, vanity, competing against myself.

GTKY: Do you take fitness classes? Why/Why not?
I love fitness classes. Don't take them as much anymore because of money but I love that they push my cardio. I'll run but I'm pretty bad at HIIT when I'm by myself. It's what my goals are for the week.

  • Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week? Feeling good about myself that I've at least got back to the weight I was prior to my last two surgeries. All that down time will pack it on!!! Would like to lose more though.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? If I can just not gain this week I'll be happy.

Any challenges you're facing this week? Uh... Pumpkin pie. Pumpkin beer. All the wine. Stuffing. Vegetables that swim in some kind of cream... Cream of mushroom/cream cheese. But if these are my biggest problems this week I am a happy camper.

What's your motivation? Want to start out a pregnancy with a healthier Weight... So at this point I'm just going to see My bfns as more time to lose weight. Considering signing up for a marathon through the redwoods. Will be something I can look forward too that isn't baby related and will be a GIANT middle finger to cancer. So every day that gets me motivated for my morning run.

GTKY: Do you take fitness classes? Why/Why not? Yoga. Because it keeps me calm.

I think the beginning of the week (Sunday? Monday?) is a good time to start the thread.  I'm also wondering if ppl want to include a question along the lines of "How did your goals for last week go?" so that people can update and say if they were able to meet their fitness and/or nutrition goals for the week.  I was thinking that it might be helpful so that folks have some accountability to sticking with their goals.  I know I have trouble getting motivated sometimes (especially now that it's cold and dark out all the time) and knowing that I'll have to check in and say I didn't follow through *might* be good motivation for me?
  • LOVE the idea of this thread!

Current weight/Goal weight: 149/130; I am at a normal BMI for my height but want to be slimmer.

Fitness and nutrition goals for the week: run at least 5 days a week. I have run 2 full marathons (one this year) and 23 half marathons...I need to get back in it!

Any challenges you're facing this week? WINE. UGH. MY BIGGEST WEAKNESS!

What's your motivation? I look at old photos of myself when I'm better shape and get frustrated...but I am determined to get back to that!

GTKY: Do you take fitness classes? Yoga only. Other than that I go solo.

Weekly thread like this is an AWESOME idea!

  • Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week? Honestly, not great. I hate being this heavy, it's hard to MOVE. I gained a bunch of weight from steroids / forced inactivity since last spring (March roughly) due to the same issue which forced us to put TTC on hold.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? I really want to start running in the mornings again. It's really only been a couple of weeks now that my husband will let me run alone (or with the dog) because for the last year I was dealing with vertigo from a health issue. He had visions of me on the side of the trail, too dizzy to move - which may have not been too far off the mark. And, I love him dearly, but he can't keep up on a run.

Any challenges you're facing this week? Why is it so DARK? I hate this time of year.

What's your motivation? I really don't want to add baby weight on top of what I gained over the past 6 months. Plus I worry that the extra pounds are impeding our fertility. I was at a PERFECT weight for me and gained about 30lbs. I've lost about 8lbs of it since, but it's slow going.

GTKY: Do you take fitness classes? Why/Why not? I used to take a yoga class once a week. I had to stop because yoga + balance issues didn't end well. Since I've been feeling better I want to get back into it. I was tipping over during fairly easy poses, and was a danger to myself and others!  I've never liked cardio classes, usually they are blasting some obnoxious music WAY TOO LOUD.

  • Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?
    Current Weight: 105
Goal Weight: I mean, 105 is good. But I've always been a smaller person in general and this is the most I've ever weighed so it's kind of freaking me out. I also struggled with anorexia in High School so that probably plays a part. I've gained a good 10lbs since getting married.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?
Most of my goals are centered around getting back into running. I used to run like a champ. Now I'm a champ at napping, which doesn't burn nearly as many calories.

Any challenges you're facing this week?
Thanksgiving is a challenge. I was challenged to see how much food I could shove into my face within an hour. Challenge accepted.

    What's your motivation?
I really am motivated to start cooking healthier meals and going to the gym more to help motivate DH. He's struggling with his weight and obesity/diabetes/heart disease runs rampant in his family. I know he's young to be worrying about these things, but it's something to start working on, even in your 20s.

GTKY: Do you take fitness classes? Why/Why not?
I do not take fitness classes because I once went to zumba and everyone danced better than me and all their butts were way better than mine and so I never came back lol
