  • kerismatic - The clinic I go to has a BMI requirement, which I didn't find out about until I was at the office.  It was kind of horrible to go there, excited to maybe start getting some answers, only to be told that I had to lose weight before they would do as much as a blood test (or order a SA on DH, since they said they had to check me out before ordering one).  I don't know if me being 1-2 lbs over is enough for them to refuse to do the IUI, but I don't want to take any chances :(

    Thanks for the good vibes everyone!  The whole thing is just getting to me, I think.  I told DH last year that I didn't want to go through another holiday season with nothing, but it looks like it will be that way anyway.

    Interesting... and frustrating! I wonder if that's the norm across the board?  We're not at the point of IUI yet, but I guess that serves as extra motivation to get myself into shape in case we do need to go down that road.

    @WA85 sorry about AF but I hope you have a wonderful birthday!!  Definitely indulge in all the cocktails!

  • kerismatic - I don't think that's the norm.  It was a new policy on their part  (I had gone their once before, and was told they couldn't treat me until I quit smoking, and my weight was never mentioned).  Plus, I called another clinic asking about IVF (Where I go doesn't do it, and the closest place that my insurance will cover me going to is in DC, so I was looking at other options) and I asked if they had a weight or BMI criteria, and they said no. It is super frustrating,, especially since I'm a big believer in being fat and healthy :D. For sure, ask if they have any requirements that have to be met if you reach that point!

    @WA85 Happy birthday!

    Thank you all for your kind thoughts! My birthday was ok, tried to stay optimistic and as positive as possible but my husband is in a bad mood from work. My doctor wants to not do clomid this next cycle since the holidays are going to make it hectic to monitor, and I'm kind of relieved to take a break from the side effects. @Lin&say its a canon 35mm 1.4L! I'm in love. Ive been trying to upgrade one by one and this one is going to be perfect for my studio in my house because its kind of small. I do family/newborn photography as well! I've also been slowly getting into engagement and commercial photography, but i'm still portfolio building for that. This is my first fall/winter being a photographer since i quit my job in marketing over the summer, so i don't have that rush that you speak of yet!

    @WA85 that sounds awesome!  You're brave to do that on your own.  I just got finished school for cosmetology, and I quasi work on my own, but so far its been for friends.  Enjoy your camera!

  • @WA85 happy birthday!!

    I am impatiently waiting for a blood test on 11/30 to make sure I am not already pregnant before starting clomid next month. AF should have come today (if my cycles were normal) so I am greatly struggling with SS. How do you ladies keep from doing it?

    The farthest I have been is a Caribbean cruise to grand turk and the Bahamas.
  • Happy birthday @WA85 !! Sounds like you had a great day, despite CD1.

  • @lily55d I've been considering to see a therapist as well. It's not a bad idea. I had some dark moments after my ectopic. It wasn't really the loss but more the waiting to start a new cycle. Now that I'm in a new cycle I feel so much better.

    So I'm on day 4 of letrazole. This stuff is so much better than clomid. At least for me.
  • @lily55d I think seeing someone sounds like a great idea.  Maybe you could ask your RE clinic if there are any recommendations for counselors that specialize in fertility issues?  I've heard some clinics have someone as part of their practice, even.

    Updated!  Also, I have seen a therapist on and off to deal with infertility and other issues.  It was a huge help and I recommend it!  You might want to see if you have a local chapter of RESOLVE, the organization geared toward support and finding a cure for infertility.

  • @lily55d, or anyone else who is interested, Psychology Today (psychologytoday.com) is a great place to search for therapists and read their bios and specialties.  You can even search for those who list infertility as a specialty to narrow down your search!

  • @kerismatic ok the bmi thing: It isn't a requirement for each RE. I spoke to ours about it after freaking out seeing it posted all over here. My clinic doesn't have a requirement but he did go over the drastic changes in success rates based on bmi. Yes, I know there is the idea you can still be "healthy" and be overweight, but I also know that being overweight can affect your success. So just talk to your RE and see where they stand bc they shpuld do whatever it takes for you to be succesful. Whether that is help with a diet plan, bench you for a month or so, give you a goal weight, etc.

    RE DX for me: Anovulatory cycles/Mild PCOS  RE DX for DW: Endometrioma on left Ovary.

  • Thanks @twomommiestobe. I'm not working with an RE quite yet, but if/when I do I will definitely ask about their criteria.  Meanwhile, I just started working with a nutritionist and am hoping that this helps to reduce my BMI and my insulin levels.  Hopefully I'll be in a better place with my overall health if we're still not KU in 3 months (when I'll likely receive the referral to the RE).

    Seeing as I'm posting again anyway, I might as well update to say that my first appointment with the nutritionist went well.  Not surprising I need to reduce my intake of sugars.  This includes eliminating simple starches, simple carbs, concentrated sugars and artificial sweeteners.  Somewhat surprisingly, she wants me to increase my dairy intake (I don't each much at all).  She spoke about how fat-free products tend to include increased sugar content so to opt for things like regular salad dressing instead of fat-free dressings as fat doesn't impact blood sugar.  I also have to start tracking what I'm eating.  I'm not so thrilled about tracking (used to do WW) so she gave me a simplified version to start.  I think it's doable.  We'll see how it goes. I go back again next week.

  • Good luck @kerismatic! Tracking is a pain but it can be really eye opening. I go back and forth between tracking my food intake and not tracking. I use Noom coach, a free app, to do it.

    Anywho, I guess the blood work will let me know. But I usually ovulate between days 11-14.
    We've decided to take the holidays off from the RE. It's very time consuming and $ consuming which is stressing me out- and we all know stress is not good for TTC!
    I'm taking FertilAid and using Instead Softcups to keep those little suckers where they belong by my cervix. My hopes aren't super high, but miracles do happen :)

    QoTW.... I live in the Seattle area, the furthest I've been from home was England. My stepdad is British and my mom took me over there when I was 18 to meet his family and tour. I loved it, but was jetlagged the whole time. The history and castles were amazing. Being from the west coast, you don't see to many structures more than 100 yrs old. So it was really cool to see buildings and castles that were so much older.

  • @yellingbanana good luck!! Let us know how it goes.

    Finished my letrazole and now have to wait till Monday to see how my follies grew and get the hysterectopy done.
  • My RE's office called! I finally have a surgery date, and they managed to fit me in before the end of the year!!

    I'll start taking progesterone November 25 and I'll take the last pill December 5th so I can have surgery December 16th. The best part is that DH will be home to go with me!

    I just can't believe it's finally scheduled. I've been waiting to hear those words since the beginning of September.

    @yellingbanana, a word of caution about the above.  Putting in softcups after sex is almost begging for a UTI.  Within a few minutes of ejaculation, the sperm that could make it are already heading to where they're supposed to be.  I know there are other folks who use these types of products (similar items include the stork, the diva cup), but unfortunately I don't think it's increasing your odds.  Though there's no evidence that it increases your odds either, consider not getting up for a few minutes after sex.  After a few minutes you should urinate and get the excess stuff out.

    @ceclarlinetlo that's great news!!

  • @twomommiestobe I'm still in DC until Sunday, and then am only in town two days before Thanksgiving. I am hoping they can do a beta draw before I leave, but we'll see. Since I only had one loss, they might just tell me they won't do a beta because I am no more likely to miscarry than anyone else...FX they'll see me Monday or Tuesday.
