Nursing to sleep

My 8 month old has always nursed to sleep. Lately for naps it has been a struggle. She shows signs of being tired so we go to her room (like always) and I get everything ready, nurse her and she won't go to sleep. She seems irritable or just wants to play. She eventually(sometimes up to 90 minutes later) will be so cranky and tired she will let me nurse her again for comfort or rock her to sleep. Any suggestions to avoid a 90 minute session?

Sorry no advice for naps my hubby has lo during the day while I work so nursing isn't an option. What works for him is having a routine and rubbing her back while she lays on him
