Pregnant after IF

DH has 2% morphology but good numbers in rest of SA...what are our chances of TTC?

Hi ladies. I'm coming over from the Infertility board to ask if any of you have experience getting your BFPs after a similar experience as mine. Just got my DH's SA back and the numbers were all good except for his morphology which was 2%. The nurse said they like to have it at 4% or higher. Question is: what does this mean for us TTC? Will we have to do iui most likely now (we've been doing ti because everything is oop)? Will ivf be our only option? We hope not because financially we just can't swing it! Just trying to plan because re hasn't talked to us yet and the nurse wasn't very helpful. I'm 37, have pcos, and regular cycles. Thanks for any help you can give me!
Married to DH since 8/15

  • I know there are people here who have had morphology issues, I hope they read this and can help you! I was lucky in that there was nothing wrong with DH's SA. I feel like IUI would be a much better idea than TI.. I'm not sure about IVF but I'd say that might be your best bet. It's super expensive though, but some offices have plans or discounts that will help you out. GL and I hope you get your BFP soon.

  • Have you spoken to the doctor about it?
My DH SA did not look perfect when I viewed the results online, so I was concerned. When we had our review with RE, he brushed over it as his count was so good, it made up for having lower numbers elsewhere.
His morph might have been low, but overall he has such a high count that makes up for it and overall there is a sufficient amount of normal, motile sperms there!
Of course IUI would raise your odds over TI. IVF was not an option for us either.
The best plan will be after you and your DH talk to the doctor! Good luck!

Thanks @Kelley421 . Haven't yet had a talk with my re about the results but plan to next week. Did you get your BFP from doing iui?

  • has anyone on this thread had success after IUI with below 4% morph? OP is trying to find actual instances where this method worked for others like her and her DH.

I have the same Dx (PCOS and 2%morph for DH) but we had to go IVF after two failed IUIs. Hoping others can offer more successful experiences for op! ;;)
  • @emgem819 I did get bfp from my 3rd IUI. I do not have PCOS, mine was unexplained infertility/ovulation dysfunction. I also can't remember any exact numbers on SA, so I'm afraid I can't relay an "actual instance" for you.
Best wishes on your TTC journey!

  • @emgem819, thanks for asking this question.  Also in the low morphology boat.  We just did our second IUI (Clomid/trigger) yesterday, and the sample had good count and good motility.  @Kelley421, congrats and thanks for sharing!

  • @emgem819, What you are describing is eerily similar to my and DH's situation. I have PCOS and he has male factor (low morphology and low count). I believe his morphology was at 3% for our successful IUI cycle (that was also Femara, Follistim, Ovidrel, and Prometrium for me). Let me know if you have any questions, I understand your concerns and questions and can hopefully give you some answers!
  • Woohoo! @aceoffaith to the rescue! That's one! Thanks for sharing. :)
  • Thank you so much for sharing @aceoffaith it's awesome to know you were able to get a BFP from being in a similar situation via iui. Would love to chat more, maybe I'll pm you! Here's my latest discussion/dilemma on the infertility board after meeting with my re:https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12641478/need-advice-please-take-a-break-or-push-through-with-iui-cycle#latest
