I went from a closed cervix to fully effaced and 3cm dilated thought the day with contractions every 5 mins spent the night in hospital no progress went home in the morning to get some rest but these contractions still won't pick up even though they are quite painful how can I move this along
I have yet to deliver myself, but here are a few tips from what I can remember from various reading.
1) Relax. I know, easier said than done, but our bodies function better when we aren't tensed up. Maybe do something to distract yourself. If you are physically tired, chill and watch a good movie. If you have energy, do non-strenuous things around the house that can keep your mind busy but not stress you out.
2) Since you are back home now, and if your hospital or doctor did not say otherwise (follow their instructions!), it is probably wise to at least be drinking clear fluids like water and juice and even eating very light food like crackers or plain toast. It might take time for the contractions to pick up again and you will need a little food energy to keep you going. But probably should avoid anything with fat or a lot of protein, because that is harder to digest.
3) Spend some time in positions that help the baby put pressure on your cervix. If you have an exercise ball, sitting and gently bouncing on that may help. Or hanging out on hands and knees. Walking up and down the street close to your house (make sure you have your phone with you!)
Again, if your doctor or the hospital has told you not to do any of these things for your particular situation, trust them, do as they instruct. This is just general advice I remember.
Hope you get to safely meet your healthy baby soon!
Thank you i am now back in hospital due to painful contractions although I still hasn't progressed so now I am being induced second full day labour now hopefully will be quick from here on out
This has been my life since 6pm TUESDAY. Contractions 10min apart around the clock. Pain level has only gotten worse but I can't get the contractions to get any closer. So exhausted and in so much pain!
