Ob/GYN or Nurse Midwife?

I have a question for you ladies. OB/GYN or nurse midwife? What are you going with?

If you've had a child before, what did you go with? What was your experience?

I made my appointment with by OB who I saw for my yearly, but now I am seriously considered a midwife based on some things I have read both on the internet and in my book, What To Expect..

I currently go to an OB. The practice has a midwife, I have never met her. I seem to have a lot of pregnancy complications and therefore it is a comfort and a need to see the OB. I feel like it took this long I want the best care and most high tech that is available.

This is my 6th pregnancy. Short story: first pg stillborn twins, 2nd pg resulted in DS#1 I had placenta previa and needed a c/s, 3rd pg was a chemical pg, 4th was IVF that resulted in DS#2, my OB was fully supportive of my trying for an ended successful VBAC. 5th pg was a missed miscarriage and here I am 19 weeks with hopefully our DD and I have placenta previa again so probably a c/s. I say all that to express the most important part is finding someone who will fight for you and your baby. That you can be comfortable with.

For me I wanted my baby here the most safe way possible and a specific birth plan wasn't important to me.

I honestly feel like I'd be happy with either one in the end, but it seems like a midwife would be a more personable experience. If that makes sense. I'm still not quite sure so for now I am keeping my appointment with my OB.

I'd go with OB/Gyn I think I'll be a little scared going to midwife. I work in a hospital system so I guess I'll be more comfortable in a familiar surrounding. Also I've heard that when considering a hospital you'd want a one with atleast a trauma center so that they'd have specialist as well as equipment and blood supply to deal with extreme situation. I know it all seems like a fairy tale to me may be because it has been hard just to conceive. But I have actually heard about one case where due to some rare complication during delivery the lady lost so much blood that that hospital actually ran out of blood to give her. May be its because of that story I want a hospital with a trauma center. I think at the end you have to do whatever feels the best. Also I have heard about the concept called Centering pregnancy and I think that might be interesting ESP for prenatal classes and all.

I've decided to go with a midwife, they just have closer beliefs and practices as to what I want out of my pregnancy and delivery. I'd still be in a good hospital giving birth and there are other great hospital nearby, including John's Hopkins which has an amazing NICU unit. I think we'll be fine.

Thanks @AdorkablePixie. I am excited. But listening to you all, I feel I am so far behind and I don't really know where should I even start lol. For now I am just waiting for 10/22 and my first ultrasound at 7 weeks. I'll know if it's one or two at that time since I transferred 2. At this point I am trying to just reach that milestone because with my first pregnancy I never reached that time due to ectopic. I am just trying to stay positive and not stress much about it.
