My place gave me valium and it was fantastic! The transfer was very uncomfortable, think a pap smear but they "pry you open" waaaaay wider. Not painful, just uncomfortable.
The worst part for me was how badly I wanted to use the bathroom. They gave me Valium and all I wanted to do was relieve myself, that was the only painful part. Good luck!
I expected the pain to be on par with an HSG but I could hardly feel anything. The ultrasound wand pressing on my bladder was more painful than my transfer.
I also got Prince Valium which was nice. Kind of like the happy gas at the dentist. Or a bottle of wine.
I'm a wuss with pap smears and I thought the HSG was awful, but honestly I didn't feel any pain for transfer! My bladder was so full that's all I could feel! Plus I was distracted, looking at the screen, excited, etc... so I wouldn't worry about it!
Thanks everyone. The nurse told me today that they give valium. I'm sure that will help a little. I didn't think about the full bladder thing but you are right @mclorn... I'm sure the excitement of it all will make me distracted.
It wasn't painful for me but for sure the full bladder was uncomfortable. The first time I drank way too much water - make sure you ask how much you need to drink. Good luck!

I'm super surprised that some doctors offer Valium for the transfers. I guess everyone is different, but mine was cometely painless and took less than 5 mins. Agreed that the only uncomfortable thing us just having to hold ur bladder
MY RE prescribed xanax it's not so much for pain mine did it so I can remain relaxed. My RE stated that some women have a harder time relaxing thus making the uterus contract. It was actually great because the first FET I was a ball of nerves and the 2nd FET I was so relaxed, I slept all the way home, and while at home.

The Valium or whatever relaxation med isn't actually for OUR pain. It's actually in case the RE makes a mistake and hits the uterine wall which would a: be painful and, more importantly, b: cause contractions. If you've done a test run with a catheter and have a 'easy' cervix line they probably won't prescribe anything if they're confident. #dirtyIFsecrets
Enjoy the valium. It's nice for short time it lasts. Everyone's right though - A) it doesn't hurt as badly as the HSG don't drink TOO much water C) You'll be so distracted with the screen and the full bladder it will be over before you know it.
@mclorn yeah, that's odd! Maybe for some newer docs there they do prescribe it. Gahh!!! I'm so excited for you today! FX and let me know how awesome it is to see the embies!
@khochanadel I just noticed your pic. What does the fortune in your picture say? I can't read it . The one in my pic says, "Your dearest wish will come true." I was in my TWW in my first medicated and monitored cycle when I got it, and I busted out in tears in the middle of Pei Wei. Everyone probably thought I was crazy. Since then, I've received a few others that are promising for fertility, like "A small gift can bring joy to the entire family." Last 2ww, our fortunes didn't say anything on point but the on the back of the fortune, DH's said "boy" and mine said "inside". I've enjoyed fortune cookies a lot more lately, I just wish these fortunes would come true sooner rather than later!!!
