Re: Weekly baby-weight loss check-in: 9/7/15

  • Hmm...  Nobody's checked in this week.  Maybe we've all lost our baby weight!  :-)

    1. How many weeks postpartum?
    13 weeks
    2. How many pounds do you want to lose to reach your pre-baby weight (most recent child)?
Still have 3 more to go - I've plateaued, which is frustrating
    3. How many pounds do you want to lose to reach your ideal weight?
10 more once I finish with the baby weight
    4. What is your overall plan?
The plan is changing now that I'm back to work full time.  I had been going to the gym three days a week and taking daily stroller walks.  Now I can only make it to the gym twice a week and take two or three stroller walks.  This is probably why my weight has plateaued.  Yuck!
    5. How did last week go?
Crazy adjusting to the work and day care schedule.  I;m hoping to settle into a routine in the next few weeks so I can make the most of the minimal gym time I am getting.
    6. What is your plan for the upcoming week?
Maximize that gym time and whatever stroller walks I can squeeze in!
QOTW - What kind of at-home exercise equipment do you have?  Do you like it?  Is there something you wish you had that you don't have right now?
The only thing we have at home are our yoga mats and a big exercise ball that I bought while pregnant.  It would be nice to have some hand weights around the house, but I suppose I can just do bicep curls with the baby instead!

Don't I wish, lol!  Been a busy week for me.  And I didn't post a weekly update check in this week.  Will get back on track this weekend.

BTW, I still have 1.5 to lose.  Started creaping up and decided "the hell with this" and recommitted myself, lol.  Started running/jogging this week.  Been a really long time since I've done it.  Felt good. :) Fiance' is also recommitted so I am looking forward to some good progress in the coming weeks.

  • Have been having trouble posting to this thread.
  • Making great progress☺ 2kg to go to pp weight. 4 to go to ideal weight. Doing light exercise. Will be cleared for gym next week. Looking forward to it! Meantime, cycling at home, small weights. May try out a pilates studio close to home. I might be closer to pp weight but my tummy is a bit "puffy"still. No fitting into jeans! Will get there
  • A bit of a late entry but...

19 weeks pp and I have 5 more pounds to ideal weight! Pretty happy so far, although the rate of weight loss has definitely slowed down.

So far, I've been breastfeeding and waking up so often and night plus rocking the baby constantly that I feel like I'm getting enough cardio. I also walk to work, about 30 minutes each way. However, I'd like to pick up some weights soon, at least a couple of times a week, though I need my LO to start sleeping longer stretches at night before I feel up to it!

I don't have any home equipment but I do love to walk so that's my primary non-gym workout.  I used to have a Wii fit and liked it a lot. Maybe I'll try digging it out of my parents' basement sometime.
  • 21 weeks pp and still have 10 lbs to go to pre pregnancy/ideal weight. Been plateauing for a couple months. Still going to WW though! Just started running more this week so hopefully that will shake my plateau. I would looove to fit back into my clothes someday soon.

  • I'm so jealous of all this progress!! I'm 19 weeks pp. I've lost about 20lbs but I still have 40 to go!! I started walking at the school track a few weeks ago. I drop off my son every day at school and my daughter twice a week and the track is literally right there so I started packing up the stroller. I've been doing 2-3 miles every single day for the last three weeks and I've only lost 1.5lbs!! Beyond aggravated. It doesn't go without a lot of effort! Three days a week I have the baby and my almost 3 yr old with me in the double stroller. Twice a week I have the baby. Irritating.

It's gotta be diet. I don't over eat but I am struggling big time with having time to prepare good choices. I'm grabbing too many quick carbs because someone is always crying in my house!! I haven't dried my hair or styled it since I was pregnant. Three kids is just craziness and I literally never get a break.

  • @niknak1208 - sorry you are feeling discouraged. :( Hopefully you'll start seeing results soon, to give you a motivation boost.
The only tips I can think of - use an app to track your calories in/out for a couple weeks- requires time that you don't have. Could you swap a walk day for strength training, or stop at a playground while you're out for some lunges, etc.? Not really a short-term weight loss strategy, but because muscle burn calories more efficiently, could help in the long run. I know being more toned helps me feel better, regardless of what the scale says. Here are some ideas:

  • I have been so bad about updating this thread weekly.  Gonna try to get it started again if everyone is okay with that.  Maybe it will help.

Sorry to hear you're discouraged, @niknak1208. I've kinda plateaued myself and fluctuate between my pre-baby weight and three pounds above (and usually it's the latter).  For me, I know it's diet.  I need to eat more like I did when I was pregnant ... more protein, less carbs, lots of water.

I agree with @mindaa that strength training might be a good option.  I am gonna start that myself.  I really believe that it is harder to take off the weight the older you get.  Strength training is supposed to help that (or so I'm told).

  • Hi all! I'm down to only 1-2 lbs above pre-pregnancy weight, but that's still 5-6lbs above ideal, so hope I can get off the plateau. More walking with LO strapped into the ergo is my plan! And fewer cinnamon buns!
