Could Iodine Tablets make your kid smarter

Just saw this on IFLScience and thought it was interesting enough to share.

Basically the results of a study that says most people lack iodine in their diet, which helps with thyroid to produce hormones, which help with prenatal brain development. It suggests that either iodine should be added to salt or women TTC should take an iodine supplement.

Salt has iodine in it. They added iodine to salt in the 1920s for this reason. Iodine deficiency is quite common under underdeveloped countries. It's just as important as Folic Acid.

And your prenatal multi-vitamin should have your iodine in it. So you already are "taking a pill to make your kid smarter"

I was just coming to post this. If you look on the packaging it says "iodized salt" on it.

Is that true in the UK though? The original study was conducted in the UK.

Otherwise, I was going to say the same thing. I'm pretty sure my prenatal has sufficient iodine in it.

Next week it will be Secret Salmon excretions. I get iodine with my table salt. Omega three fatty fish.

I wouldn't take a supplement on the off chance my kid could be a brainiac.

Interestingly, a google search indicated that there may be iodine deficiencies in the UK and it looks like it's not the standard there, like it is in the U.S. Actually clears up my confusion over the article (I admit I didn't click the link/read it) because I was thinking, "but...salt...???"
