Weaning #1 off pacifier before #2 is born

Hi friends,

I did a search and didn't find a post on this topic, so hopefully I'm not repeating something that was just discussed, but here's my question:

I have a 14month old dd, I am due in Jan with baby #2. My dd is super attached to her pacifier, she only gets it in the car seat and crib, but if it falls out while she's in her crib she screams for it. I'm wondering if I should wean her off it before baby gets here. How old were your kiddos when you stopped giving a pacifier? How did you do it? Did you wean, replace it with a lovey (teddy/blanket), or just go cold turkey?

I weaned my first off around 18 months. Her brother was five months old at the time and he never took a paci. I was afraid it would be really hard but our cat actually started the process. The cat bit a hole in the tip she couldn't get suction. After about 10 paci being popped I used it to my advantage and put a tiny hole in the tip of one. She finally stopped trying

We weaned ours off it when she was 26 mos. At 16 mos. We had triplets boys. It was an awful 4 days but so worth it. Didn't matter the boys were 10 mos old bc I NEVER let a binky get near them..it was an awful experience. Didn't liKE DD with one either. She had gotten it at 3 mos when my mom thought it might help with colic. .nothing did. .and neither did the binky. Seriously just hate them.

I feel like a mean mom now! We took it away cold turkey at 1 year. So much easier than drawing it out!!!
