The Chafing the Diaper Rash. HELP ME

OMG, I've never felt more sympathy for a baby with Diaper Rash than i do right now. So lets face it, try as we might not to go overboard our weight gain we do. My thighs are thicker than sequoias and my lady parts are chafing and now breaking out in what looks like a diaper rash from what i can tell. Does anybody have any tried and true methods to relieve this and keep it away? I am at work right now commando with my desk fan blowing straight up my skirt. I've struggled so hard to find panties that will not irritate, but i can't find a cotton pantie that has the longer thighs and the brief cut just DIGS into the burning area.

Re: The Chafing the Diaper Rash. HELP ME

  • Try drying the area really well and applying aquaphor as a moisture barrier.

  • Oh, I feel your pain! I've had it red, irritated and bumpy like a terrible razor burn last pregnancy and this one as well. It's a joy of a summertime 3rd trimester. My first suggestion is to stop wearing skirts. The skin-on-skin rubbing is not going to help you. I know it's hot, but at least pants keep it from rubbing as badly. Second, I found a pair of lightweight boyshort pregnancy undies. They go all the way up over the belly and have longer fabric on the thighs, so it keeps them off each other. Yes, it adds additional heat, but I have to get dressed and go to work everyday, and this is the solution that works for me. The PP had a great suggestion about Aquaphor ointment. That should help with at least some healing and lubrication.

  • I don't really know about the underwear dilemma but putting baby powder between your thighs will help when rubbing together. I haven't had the issue until recently so baby powder has worked well!

  • I honestly wonder if busting out the Desitin early will help? Hell, it helps for the LO's!
  • I was using baby powder but its no longer effective :(
  • I am so glad you posted this! I had this yesterday. I took a shower dried off really well, Got a fresh pair of undies and poured baby powder all over them and my legs.
  • Go ahead and put some triple paste on it :) I used to mix coconut oil, vaseline and cornstarch for my daughter for a homemade rash cream. Maybe that would help.

Put some antiperspirant on right now with the baby powder (white not the invisible) that should help until you can get home and then stop wearing skirts if you can or get a pair of leggings that you can cut short

This. Under one of my boobs was getting terribly irritated a month ago or so and I started putting my son's Triple Paste diaper cream on it and it cleared right up! No issues since.
  • I put baby powder. But when I had a rash I used one of the sampels I got for baby destine it went way. Also when I wear dresses I wear a pair of DH' boxer short undies, it was less expensive than buying some maternity shapewear shorts.

So my thighs have becomes really close friends this pregnancy and a couple of times with the heat I have broken out in a rash. I opened my babies butt paste and it did the trick for me! Felt Much better.
  • Lately with this crazy Arizona heat with humidity it doesn't matter what I wear I chafe, so I sucked up my pride and bought some men's cotton boxer shorts, yup men's undies....sexy I know but the extra thigh coverage and using baby powder has helped immensely with rashes down there. I just keep telling myself with my thighs touching I'm one step closer to becoming a mermaid lol
  • I have used Destin and that worked wonders for me.
  • I (thankfully) haven't experienced this yet with pregnancy, but maybe for the thigh rubbing, an athletic anti-chafing gel like Body Glide might work. I used this when my thighs rubbed together while running (pre-preggo), and it seemed to help.  I also second using the diaper creams. Maybe witch hazel would also help?

  • I hate this! It has been so bad. I am chaffing in my lady bits and between my thighs and was using my sons diaper rash cream and baby powder. It helped for awhile, but just wasn't doing the trick anymore. Plus I just can't keep my downstairs area dry at this point because there's so much discharge (tmi I know). So at my last dr appointment I asked her to take a look at it and see if there was anything she could do. So she wrote a prescription for an ointment that I apply twice a day. I'm not allowed to shave down there right now, but the ointment works miracles!! Talk to your OB if it's that bad! I'm so grateful I did
  • I wouldn't apply to broken skin but after it heals a little anti-perspirant on the inner thighs will prevent the chaffing. There is also a product that is a lace garter like thing called Bandelettes that helps too.
  • I keep this in my purse or lunch bag at all times. I don't know the last time I wore pants (instead of skirts) but this has helped immensely.
  • I did call my Doc today and she called in an ointment. I hope it helps. I have a major cocktail of fixes going on down there and i just feel all around gross!
  • I know this sounds weird but I use "karma sutra Honey Dust" I got it a party for my bacholorette party and it works wonders . If you don't know what it is just google it . Again, sounds weird but it works ! It's a miracle dust :)
  • Aquaphor helps. I also wear a maternity body shaper thing under dresses which prevents my thighs from rubbing against each other.

I thought my rash down there was just a heat rash from my huge thighs rubbing against one another, but turns out it was actually a YI. My doc gave me Monistat and it helped. If it doesn't get better, show your doc at your next appt.
