Flying with 3 month old. Help please!

My husband has to go to CA to work for 28 days. I'm considering flying myself and baby girl across country to spend a week with him before I return to work. The logistics of it are pretty scary. The flying alone, layovers, what to do about a stroller, a crib, car seat...will I be the lady with the screaming baby...?

Who has done this?
Should I buy baby a ticket and take her in her car seat?
I guess I'll need to check the stroller so i will have one while we're there? And there's the car seat base to think about.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
