"You look like you're ready to pop"

If I hear this one more time from one of the guys at work I might pop them. I'm 5'1 with a short torso so the only place my belly is going is out. Everyone carries so differently and I wish some people would think before they speak! Jerks.

    Agreed!

I carry out front as well. I get told I look like I'm full term, I could go anyday now, I must be having twins or a huge baby... Well my last baby was 9.7 lbs so good chance this baby will be big ... I'm not sure if people just get awkward around pregnant people and don't know what else to say...

I don't even think I look THAT big, but yesterday at work, one of the doctors said, "wow! Getting close, huh?" I said, "not as close as you're making it sound!" I feel like no matter what people say, I'll take offense since it's not normal to comment on MY body. I've gotten lots of "wow! You're pregnant!" lately. I think it's just because I finally started showing in my scrubs.
I have heard from patients and co-workers 1,234,679,453,235,565,789 TIMES SINCE Monday about how much I've "popped" in the last week. I don't think i look any different maybe just wear i'm finally showing in the scrubs....LOL

God I know exactly how you feel! For me I'm only 4'11 and I swear I hear that about 2-3 times a day X(

I have a friend that decided last time she was over to ask a bunch of weird questions, but has been in the medical field sorta, least in patient care. I said something about measuring a couple weeks ahead so our baby was big, she was automatically on the whole "maybe it's twins" thing... yeah because in 2 cm of extra space they'll just lose a whole baby... I'm 5'0" I'm really hoping that my boy will be tall, he'll be my height by the time he's 12 at least most likely, being short sucks lol.

Ugh I get this all the time too. I'm 5'2" and have like no torso cause of scoliosis. Yay. I also keep getting, "you haven't had that baby yet?!" And I just say nope he's still in there!

I just got this for the first time the other day! And here I had been feeling really good about my cute little belly! Most people had been telling me I hardly looked pregnant (and I took I while to show so I wanted to look pregnant!) So it really caught me off guard! I was helping my husband with his float in the local parade and a lady helping to hand out flyers asked me when I was due. When I told her October, she said "oh really?!" Then followed it up with "you must be having twins!". Man, that stung! And I had such a bad day that day (failed my 1 hour glucose test) so I took it hard!

I hate the expression "ready to pop". It makes me think of popping a balloon and we all know the belly doesn't magically disappear the second the baby is born...

Instead of a ballon I just think of a zit. Gross I know

Tonight I made a comment about how my belly felt big. My husband says "Yeah I noticed when we were in Winn Dixie..."
I'm like how does someon notice that I feel big? :| lol
Then he tells me "You're getting round, like soon you'll look like you're going to pop."
Yeah, baby, pregnant women don't want to hear that.
He followed that up with how he thinks that's the whole third trimester. We still have 3 weeks until we hit that point.
    Silly boy.

Depending on what I'm wearing, I either get the pop comment or I get "you don't even look pregnant."  The latter only comes if I'm wearing a flowing empire waist top.  I can't possibly be BOTH of those things so I think people just think these are comments you have to say to pregnant women.  I try not to be too offended but it's definitely hard watching my waistline go to heck!

Totally agree with the idea that people just want to say something. In the space of five minutes about four weeks ago I was told "you must be having twins" and "gosh you're still so tiny". *roll eyes*. Drives me nuts too. Just to balance it out there are wiser people out there too and I really appreciate the people who say things like "you look great!" Or "what a cute belly". I'm definitely going to they to remember in the future how much I loved these comments and hated the other above ones!

People keep asking me how much longer, that it must be soon. I say October and I get the pity poor you, you have all summer and are so big already. Yes, I'm showing, i have a freakin baby in me. Ugh! I'm also the same way, 5'2" with a short torso. First trimester I lost 10 lbs, and am just now back at my starting weight, but all in my belly where LO sits forward, and he's measured big the whole time.

Someone said this to me today and I was like oh I still have a long way to go! Then she CONTINUED saying how I looked 9 months. LADY STOP TALKING. I'm all belly but I truly am not that big. Come on now

Also thankful for this thread. I was at a BBQ yesterday where even a L&D nurse who just had a baby commented on "all that weight she's carrying around." There was another pregnant woman there who was quite tiny and about 4-6 weeks behind me and I felt like I was getting compared to her constantly. Ugh. For the record, my doctor is perfectly content with how much weight I've gained and so am I!

This week from the guys at work I'm hearing a lot of "gosh you're REALLY pregnant" 12 weeks to go!

Yesterday I had a guy a Maaco tell me "you look like your having twins." No, just short and my belly gets big. I didn't respond to him, because after walking just over a mile in a thunderstorm I wouldn't have been polite. And I think he meant well.

Oh yeah and I get the "oh poor you, you've got the whole summer to get through" comments, too. I find these funny because summer humidity sucks anyway and 3rd trimester of pregnancy sucks anyway, so it's not like I'm really any worse off.

I am tall but I am huge because I have polyhydramnios (excess amniotic fluid) for whatever reason. I got lots of comments on Sunday at church, I guess because folks haven't seen me in awhile since I've been out of town. One acquaintance asked how many days I have left and I said, "Days?? Try months". I'm getting the pity looks after I mention October, too. But with my condition, I just hope to make it close to my due date and not go too early.

@MamaOwl15 I always get that look of horror and that salivary gasp back and then"ohhhh you have to get through August". I feel lucky I work in AC and also have AC in my house. People act like it's the end of the world.

I went for a walk on Saturday night I our mall (to stay out of the scorching Minnesota summer heat), and a sales clerk at one of the stores, after she asked what she could do for us and we jokingly said that she may see us three more times because we were doing laps. She then asked if we were trying to get baby out. I responded, "Not quite yet". I'm 29 weeks, and I am short torsoed so I am all baby at this point. But, people have to keep in mind that everyone carries differently.

I so get it only it comes from my own mother this is my 3rd and she says "you look like your having twins!" "I think you need to exercise more" and let me just say I'm an active stay at home mom and I eat healthy. I of course have my cravings as well but I'm not over here sitting on the couch eating Bon bons all day. I think people should keep their comments to themselves.

I have AC in my apartment, free pools in my city, and plenty of access to ice cream and/or Popsicles. I'll survive. Plus, my mom had two September babies and one July baby and lived to tell about it. So yeah j think it's kind of funny how much people pity those of us who are pregnant all summer.

A (male) co-worker told me that I wasn't going to make it past September 30th (I'm due October 26th)... He wouldn't let it go until he saw me write it down on a guess sheet.

I'm 5'0 and hear this constantly. The phrasing isn't always the most flattering either. People keep saying things like "almost time?" Nope. Still have 11 weeks to go and no I'm not having twins :-L

@zombiexcupcakes yea, same with me. A crossing guard the other said that to me, I couldn't believe it! I am like "no I have another 3 months to go."  #1 I am 5'5 and the rest of me is still reasonable. I just have a bump. There's a reasonably sized person in there. But I am short torso'd so maybe that;s why? Anyway, it doesn't matter! You shouldn't comment on people's bodies! Ugh I can't stand people!

I had a co-worker tell me yesterday that I'm "looking chubby."

INTERNAL DIALOGUE: I will not hit a coworker in the face and get fired. I will not hit a coworker in the face and get fired. I will not hit a coworker in the face and get fired.

I also have gotten some comments from my weight-lifting class which is all women. Things like "We thought you were just getting a big beer belly..." Since I have never had a beer belly and had actually been losing weight prior to getting pregnant, I'm not sure where this comes from.

Unless you are my MD (and on really good days *maybe* my husband), you do NOT get to comment on my weight during pregnancy.

Back when I was about 20 weeks (not showing too much), a coworker commented on how "big I was"... I could still button my pre-maternity pants at that point in time so she upset me. She also used to touch my stomach almost everyday. Which I put a stop to because that's not appropriate and it's just awkward. AND the same woman commented about the fact that I grabbed a few donut holes instead of a donut at our morning meeting. She said "of course YOU would grab the donut holes!" And then asked if she wanted me to grab another donut. I said NO! Which was a little snappy but don't comment about what I eat, don't touch me and don't say how big I am.

What made it worse is that she has 3 kids... ~X( [-X
