So tonight the name Deirdre came to mind. I was friendly with a Deirdre as a child and her name popped into my head suddenly.

I'm not sure if i like it or not. Anybody like it?

Not a fan. I knew a Deirdre growing up and she was strange to say the least. But we all have weird name associations like that.

It's Irish. It's pronounced "Deer-dre" - pretty much how it's spelled. Some people say "Dee-dra" or "dia-dra" which is not correct. One freak i know says "Dee-tra" which is just... ugh. No.

Yeah, Dee-tra needs to check herself. I've only ever met Dee-dras. I really like Irish names! If you want to use one, dig a little deeper for one you love!

I'm actually not specifically into Irish names. I just happen to like some names that are irish Neither me nor the hub are irish so those names don't hold any special meaning for us.

I like it but my husband doesn't. I also knew a Deirdre in school. I think it's interesting and underused.

I think it's a nice, unique name.  You certainly wouldn't have to worry about her having three other Dierdres in class as school.

So you can see why Irish names confuse me.

I love it. My last pregnancy that was one of my OBs names (they had 4 in their practice). I never knew how to properly pronounce it...so I never considered it. But I love the spelling. It's such a beautiful name.

It's NMS but a good name.  I will say though: I have a good friend with this name and it is constantly mispronounced as Dee-dra, which drives her crazy, so that is something to consider.

I like it. I think it is one of those names that will be good for when she is older, but may look odd on a small child for some. I know someone named Deirdre, and she went by DeDe as a small child, until she graduated high school and she switched to Deirdre.
