Pregnant after a Loss

update, goodbye #2

I miscarried this morning. This is my second miscarriage in a row, now I guess the testing is going to begin. I am more numb this time then I thought I'd be. I am hoping there is a simple answer like low progesterone that we can solve for next time. But I know life isn't that simple, or I wouldn't have to be posting this right now. Good luck to all of us, pregnant, TTC, miscarrying, the result may be a beautiful thing but the path sure is scary as hell.

I'm so sorry. Getting tested was the best thing I did for myself afterwards, I pray that you get answers and I'll be thinking of you.

What tests did they do for you? And what was the solution?

So sorry for your loss. I pray every day for those pregnant with their rainbows, those TTC, and those just starting down the path of miscarriage. I hope you get some answers.

My doctor told me that miscarriage was "normal" and couldn't justify any testing, so I went to a fertility specialist and they were amazing. I had had a D&C and, even though it had been a while, they ordered a test called Anora. This tested what they so medically called the "products of conception" and we found out that that baby had trisomy 13. They (blood) tested me, too and, while we would have lost our son (also determined by that test) either way, they found out that I have MTHFR which could have caused a loss in a healthy pregnancy. They put me on rx folic acid immediately and I've been taking it ever since. They also tested my husband's sperm and did a "water" ultrasound (I'm not sure what the technical name is for it), but the first two tests are what yielded answers. You're welcome to email me with questions or if you just want to talk:

I'm so sorry that happened to you once, much less twice. I know it's common, but I wish the medical community was more proactive. Nothing would have prevented my first one, but for there's no sense in women suffering more than they have to.

Sswartout- what was the problem for you guys?

    Thanks plainjane
I'm just trying to collect some knowledge on possible problems and tests that can be done. I just feel like sometimes you have to guide the doctors ya know?

My DH has a Robertsonian Balanced Translocation with the 13 & 14 chromosomes. We are more likely to have a baby with an extra or missing 13 or 14 chromosome, which usually leads to miscarriages (the exception being trisomy 13). It's a simple blood draw for the karyotype (tests your chromosome makeup) but it took a few weeks for the results.

I also started acupuncture and progesterone after the 3rd loss just for my own peace of mind.

You do, especially a regular OBGYN. You might consider a fertility specialist. They don't just specialize is getting you pregnant, but keeping you pregnant and are good at investigating. Once you're pregnant they'll normally see you until 12 months, then you'll "graduate" to someone else.
