The Odds of NOT Having An Early Miscarriage

Hello Ladies!

I've noticed that no matter how many times I look up miscarriages rates, I walk away feeling only slightly better (at best). I'm the kind of person who finds reassurance in statistics, but for some reason, all of the existing posts weren't doing it for me. And then I realized why: articles on miscarriage focus on the chances you're going to miscarry and all the comments share miscarriage stories--they don't focus on how many people DON'T have miscarriages and go on to have happy, healthy babies! 

I adapted this week-by-week chart and modified it so that it would focus on the positive rather than the negative! Since I found the positive spin benefiting my peace of mind, I thought it might benefit some of you too.

By the way, anyone in this January 2016 club already has a better chance of NOT having a miscarriage than having one... The numbers are on your side!

This is great! Such a better approach to looking at the statistics. I am a big geek when it comes to using math, science and logic to make sense of things and I find comfort in the numbers. Especially these because they come from the right direction

Thanks! Is this the percentage once you've had an ultrasound?

@Danni7535, the original study tested women daily for pregnancy from when they were TTC so they could get those early pregnancy rates, so I imagine these odds are not ultrasound-dependent, but I don't know for sure.

I LOVE this! I keep forcing myself to not get too excited because I keep reading about all these other women losing their babies, but now that I see that chart I feel like I can relax a bit

Thank you so much for sharing this. I really needed it after an unexplained bleeding happened yesterday which the doctor thinks is a SCH. I am worried sick waiting for the U/S but seeing my very low chance of a miscarriage at 7w2d makes me feel so much better, especially while bored on bed rest.

What an awesome first post to read this morning! Thank you so much for taking time to find data and post. This is my first baby and I'm almost 40, so very, very nervous and half the things I read just make me more nervous. These positive statistics lessen my worry greatly! Again, thank you.

@DaphneMoon1, the odds of having two miscarriages in a row is only 3%. So you have a 97% chance of having no problems this time around! Statistically, you're in even better shape than the chart above.

This is awesome! Even though I haven't had a miscarriage before I have been terrified that I will have one given all the data out there. We got pregnant 2 months after I got off birth control and my symptoms haven't been bad, so this all seems too easy...

Thank you for the stats on 2 in a row, that's been my concern I fell into that 1% of a missed miscarriage, so I feel like the odds are never on my side. Thank goodness for a heartbeat today!

Thank you very much this has really settled my nerves. I had 2 MC last year. I have been trying not to focus on it or stress about it since I found out I was pregnant again but haven't had any success. Think I'll be looking at this all the time
