I usually lurk and read the great advice y'all provide, but I am now having an issue with my DD (21 months) not wanting to sit in her highchair. We do not have a booster seat for her as we were not planning to take her out of the high chair until after she turned two, but now she is throwing absolute fits when we try to put her in the high chair. The first was dinner on Monday night, then lunch on Tuesday, and today it was for breakfast and lunch. She cries, tries to kick her tray off, anything not to be in the chair. To get her calmed for breakfast this morning, I had to put her back in the crib so she could get her blanket, then she was willing to get in her highchair as long as she had her blanket with her.
When did others transition from high chair to booster seat or a toddler table for meal time?
TIA

Well our DD has always been tough to feed so I stopped using the high chair regularly around 13 months and I either feed her sitting at her toddler table of on my lap. She is now 17 months and we still do most meals at home on my lap. However I do know that at day care they put her at a toddler table to eat. If your daughter is fighting it it might be time to make a switch. Maybe try it out and get a booster or something and see how it goes?
We have a booster seat as our highchair. You strap them in and have a tray attached. We strapped it to a barstool. He doesn't fuss because there are lots of toys attached but at restaurants he refuses to sit in a highchair. Lately he's been throwing most if his food and leaning over to watch the dog eat it for his entertainment. I've started thinking about moving him to the table so he can't throw food as easily. He eats at a toddler table at school also since about 13 months. He's 16 months now.
DD1 was almost 2 bc we needed it for DD2, and DD2 is 19 mo and we just moved her. She really wanted to sit with her big sister at the table, that's why we moved her a little earlier.
Try some different things and see what works. Dd is 15 months and usually stands on a regular chair and eats or sits in a bumbo on a different chair pulled up to the table for meals. She usually let's us know where she would prefer to eat and usually eats much better when she chooses.
My 15 month old is still in a highchair and is just starting to want to climb out. Time to start thinking about a toddler table I think.
We got a little Sesame Street table with 2 chairs at Toys R Us and it literally is the best thing I've ever bought for my son. He uses it all the time.
My 17-mo-old DS seems to be ready to transition. We have both high chair and booster at the table. He's mostly using the high chair - or is it that we are? My DD stopped using a high chair at restaurants around 21 mos (stood at the table) and made the switch at home to a booster chair at 2y0m.

My 3yr old still happily sits in her booster. DS has been standing in a chair since he was 18 months old. It's not worth the fight.

We haven't used a high chair with our daughter since she was about 8 months old. Every time we would put her in she would scream and have a fit until she was removed from the seat. She doesn't use a booster either she prefers to walk around and eat, or sit on the floor. Whatever makes her happy and gets her to eat. She will use a highchair at restaurants though.
