Babies on the Brain

Trying for #2

I am new to this board - not new to The Bump though! We were able to successfully get pregnant with our first child in 3 months of trying. It seemed very easy. This time around my period cycle lengths are so much different ever since going off birth control. My periods range anywhere from 28-38 days. It's starting to average itself out at about 30 days. We have tried for 3 months to get pregnant. This time around I feel more frustrated - since it just seemed so easy the first time.  I have tried several ovulation kits and it says I am never ovulating. I don't know if my levels are just not high enough to detect on those kits or not... Anyone else have this? Also - how long did it take you to conceive with your second or third child? I always thought it was easier to conceive after you had your first one. We have one happy, healthy, and wonderful little boy already - so that is in the back of my mind that if it doesn't work out for us this time it will be alright! We are definitely not giving up and I realize it's only been 3 months! Just wondering others experiences. Thanks for your help in advance!

Re: Trying for #2

  • I recommend temping & charting.  That will tell you pretty quickly if you are actually ovulating.

    DD1 born 5/24/10.

    Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.

    DD2 born 5/14/13.

    Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.

    Expecting someone new 4/17/17.
  • Definitely temp and chart! I didn't for #1 because I didn't know better, but I did for #2. I'm certainly not going say it helped me get pregnant quicker, but it did help me know what was going on with my cycle and if we had good timing so I wasn't testing unnecessarily or anything else.

  • We are also TTC #2. It only took 4 months the first time around and now we've been trying for 13 months! It's so frustrating and we certainly didn't expect this time to take so long because we had no trouble the first time.

I would also recommend charting! This is only my third cycle temping every morning but it's been very helpful and not at all stressful like I'd imaged it to be. The Fertility Friend app does all of the work for you. You literally just input your temp at the same time each morning and it tells you when it thinks you've ovulated.

  • We tried 1 year with our 1st and it took over 3 yrs for our 2nd. We finally had a bunch if fertility tests done and turns out it was my husband that was the problem. It takes 3 months (actually took 6 for us) to affect the sperm. So if he starts eating healthy, taking soecial vitamins, excersize. Etc. it'll take 3 months to do any good to you. Wish we had seen the specialist earlier! I saw a hormone specialist also who was encouraging and said if you are super fertile, you only need one sperm to make a baby. I charted and my ovulation was all over the place. He put me on the Paleo diet and said sugar is estrogen causing as well as milk and soy products so I avoided them in order to stabalize my hormones. It was tough but it only took 6 months after seeing the specialists. I say try the easy way, chart, use ovulation kits, but don't wait too long to see a specialist if you have trouble.
