If you had PGS testing done on your embryos, did you request to know the sex of your embryos before having them transferred?
We have two frozen embryos that we will have transferred on May 13th and I'm considering asking what the sexes are, because I'm really curious! My husband does NOT want to know. I always thought I would wait to find out the sex until I held my baby in my arms.. but since I know the PGS testing includes the sex, and this whole process is WAITING and WAITING, I don't think I want to wait to know this bit of information. lol
We are in the middle of our first ivf cycle and hoping to have embryos make it to day 5 and PGS testing. We won't find out the sex until further along. One recommendation from the genetic counselor was that if you know the sex you can get more attached at a very early stage. Something to consider if you are ok with that.
Plus if we are fortunate to have multiple to choose from we definitely don't want to know!
All the best with your transfer !
Me (42) w/ partner for 16+ years
TTC #1: 11/2012 - 9/2013; 6/2014 - present
Follistim + TI (3x): All BFNs
Follistim + IUI (1x): BFN
IVF #1: 17 retrieved,15 fertilized, Day 3: 15, Day 5/6: 3 biopsied
We are planning to find out the gender(s) when we do PGS. The information is already there and allows us a choice (hopefully there will be enough viable embryos for that) our RE also said we could choose to transfer 1 or 2 embryos. The waiting and unknown in all of this is torture so it's nice to have something we can choose.
I'm currently pregnant after IVF and we are waiting to find out the sex. I think it will be awesome to have a surprise at the end (which is the reason I tell everyone), but also to help protect myself if we have a loss.
I decided to find out - I called my IVF nurse and she told me the sex of both of our embryos! I figured... I'm already attached, we only have two and they are both being transferred. They are both male!! Very exciting to know. I haven't told my husband that I asked/know. I know he doesn't want to know.
We chose not to know until we knew it was a viable pregnancy. On my graduation appt at 13 weeks the nurse handed me an envelope with the gender and we did a small cake gender reveal with my DH, DD and myself.
BFP 10/31/12, MC 11/9/12 - We had to say goodbye before we could really say hello.
Just curious, did y'all's RE not recommend just transferring 1 blast? My husband and I did day 5 PGS and froze all 4 that made it to day 5 and all 4 came back normal. We choose to know the sexes (2 boys, 2 girls) but we were really recommended to only transfer 1... Not 2. My grades were 5AA, 5AB+, 5A-B+, 5AB+... Idk why. I wanted to transfer 2, but realized that my goal was 1 healthy baby. I work in the NICU and see plenty of premie twins and triplets. Mostly from infertility treatments, so we Opted with 1. So just curious what were the blast Grades????? Oh, and we will Not find out the gender that they transfer! It's set for May 19th!!!

@lilbean20 Our RE gave us the choice to transfer one or both. Both embryos are 5AA. My husband and I discussed it and we decided we wanted to transfer both. Yes, there is a chance of twins and we are comfortable with that.
If we had multiple embryos, that were different sexes, for more FET we wouldn't ask to know the sexes either. Good luck on your transfer on May 19th!!
I'm so excited for the upcoming transfers! We were told we could transfer 1 or 2, I'm very torn on the issue but DH is pretty set on transferring 1 since we will have had PGS, he's terrified of me being put on bed rest due to twins!!
@hopeful16 with your IVF with PGS how long was the cycle from start to finish? I finally got my schedule, ET is tentatively scheduled for 5-21, the PGS then cycle all over with BCP then FET, by my calculations I'm looking at late July!
@dukegirlsc My RE has a specific schedule for when she performs IVF procedures - she schedules all patients for IVF (retrieval, fresh and frozen transfers) during the first full week of every month. So my schedule may be different than how your clinic schedules.
Here is my timeline:
January 30th: Start birth control pills
February 12th: Start Lupron
February 16th: Stop birth control pills
February 21st: Decrease Lupron. Start Bravelle + Menopur
March 2nd: Stop Bravelle + Menopur. Ovidrel Injection in the evening at specific time.
March 4th: EGG RETRIEVAL
March 9-10: Biopsies sent for PGD + PGS testing
March 18th: Received PGS + PGD results
March 17th: Start birth control pills
April 12th: Start Lupron
April 17th: Stop birth control pills
--------
FUTURE INSTRUCTION in my protocol:
April 21st: Start estrogen patches (Appt for BW & ultrasound)
May 4th: Appt for ultrasound to check endometrial stripe + further instruction
May 9th: Stop Lupron. Start Progesterone, Claritin, Pepcid, & Prednisone
May 13th: FET
I'm not sure if you were looking for that much detail lol. But my timeline for IVF FET will be about 3.5 months.
@hopeful16 that's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much. My RE allows 4-6 weeks for the results of the PGS which seems insane to me! Hopefully that portion will go much faster, from what I was told my RE doesn't batch so I hope that cuts some of the time as well.
@hopeful16 we transferred first in October and had a chemical pregnancy. Our second transfer was February 26. Unfortunately, we lost our twins at 9.5 weeks. We will do another retrieval once my beta returns to zero in about 6 weeks.
