Hello all :) I am new to this site and wanted to introduce myself. Me 37 (13 YO daughter from previous relationship) DH 34 (no children) TTC about 4 years. I had previously had an IUD before my husband and I were married. A month before our wedding I had it removed as my husband and I wanted to try having children right away. We have been trying for it the natural way, never monitored temps or ovulation but as I am getting older we finally decided to "kick it up a notch". Currently AF but I bought an ovulation kit at target so we're going to give that a try. Not sure when we should BD once I have a positive result on the test. Any (and all) suggestions are appreciated. Looking forward to meeting you all.

  • Welcome and good luck!

I would suggest Wondfo ovulation test strips. (Ordered off Amazon) They are quite inexpensive and you can test 2x/day if needed to catch your surge, if it's difficult to catch. Lots of ladies on here use them.

If you have been TTC that long you might want to consider an appointment with an RE sooner than later, so they can run tests if there is an underlying issue and assist with your journey.
  • Welcome and I hope your stay will be short! You should bd as soon as you get a pos OPK because your best chance is to get the sperm in there before you O. But keep using the OPK because some people have a long surge. I would keep doing the deed until it turns negative to cover your bases. If you really want to kick it up you should pay attention to your cm and cervix too. I recommend the sight Fertility Friend for charting, and there is a lot of helpful info there.

Also, since you've been trying for so long I recommend seeing an RE. They can order some testing to make sure there isn't any damage from your iud and make sure you don't have any other issues preventing you from getting pregnant. They can also order an sa for your h to make sure there are no issues with his sperm. You may need a referral from your OB/GYN for insurance to cover it or even to be accepted by one, so I would check into that ASAP. That's the best advice I can give you.

  • Welcome!  I suggest checking your temp along with the OPKs because the OPK just tells you if you're gearing up to ovulate.  Your temp rise will confirm if you do.  Agree with @Guennie that Fertility Friend has some awesome tutorials people rave about to help you figure out what it all means.

I would also suggest going to a RE since you've been trying for a while.  Personally though, I'd probably do the whole OPK, temp thing for a couple months and make sure your timing is actually correct.  If you have good timing for a couple months and you're not pregnant, then I'd head to a RE.  If you haven't been keeping track, it could be as simple as missing your ovulation if you ovulate earlier or later than you think. But, that's just my opinion.

  • Welcome!! I agree with @emsmama15 that the OPKs just let you know when you are about to ovulate, but the temperature rise is the only thing that can confirm it. I've had a few cycles with a positive OPK but no ovulation so it's important to take your temp too. This will help show if you are ovulating regularly and whether or not you ovulate around the same time. Good luck with it all!!

  • Welcome.  I'd also recommend reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility and/or doing the charting course on Fertility Friend. They send you one lesson a day on email and it really makes it easier to understand.

Good luck! Stick around on this board. There are a lot of nice women cheering each other on.
