I love the name Axel for our little boy but my husband is worried that it's a little weird. What do you think, Mommas? Will I be scarring my son for life?

I really like it!! It's not too 'out there' and I went to school with an Axel who was a wonderful guy! Read somewhere that It's the person who makes the name not the name that makes the person
If it's part of your heritage I think it's an alright name. If you like it because you think it sounds cool it's side eye worthy. Also it sounds like asshole when yelling say across the playground. We had a dog with the name.
My friend named her son Axel and she is always getting compliments on it. I personally like it. With an unusual name, I think attitude is everything lol. Just make sure he owns it like a boss lol.
I'm not really a fan of the name. Reminds me of Axel Rose, which isn't a bad thing, but I just... don't like. But it's your baby and you can do what you want!

my 2nd son is Axel Arthur, we gave him a strong family middle name to use if he ever felt his name was a disadvantage to him, this bubs if a boy willl be Lars Frederick, for the same reasoning, and No neither of them were named directly after musicians
I didn't really like the name at first when my cousin named her son the Danish version Aksel for heritage reasons but the name grew on me as I associated it to the sweet little boy he is. I also like the Aksel spelling more because when I look at it I don't think of a truck Axel or parents trying to come up with an edgy name that seems more fit for a pet.
I like Axel. I've thought about it for our baby too. Gotten the same kind of feedback. I think only people who grew up with GnR would associate it with Axel Rose, and even so that's okay.

This. If you only like it because it "sounds cool," then I'd side eye the shit out of you. If you have scandinavian heritage I'd be a little less judgmental (a little).
Try yelling it out your back door as though you're calling your child. How does it come across? Listen to someone else do the same. Do you hear 'asshole' or something you like?
Personally, as others have said, I can only think of Axel Rose (GnR) and an axel on a truck. Not my preference. Then again, not my kid, so fully up to you and your partner.
Yup, Axel Rose is all I can think of when I hear that. BUT I don't think it's necessarily a bad name. I'm certain that I'm dating myself, but, yes, I think anyone who grew up in the '80's will immediately think of Guns N Roses. We named our son Cameron, and the first thing we both thought of when we considered it was Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Again, dating ourselves. LOL
I had forgotten about this post (I blame pregnancy brain!) until logging in today. Thanks for all of your input - we've decided to go with a different name!
Re: Axel? Opinions please!
2nd round exp 8/20/18.

It also means "shoulder" in Swedish.
I had not considered that it might sound like "asshole"! That's a game changer.
