7 week sonogram -- measuring as 6 weeks 2 days -- OB worried

Second sono today. Saw heartbeat (112) but measuring smaller than I should be based on timing. We did IUI so we know date. 7 weeks today but measuring as 6-2. Doc says could be ok and due to late implementation or could indicate chromosomal problem and them I am very likely to miscarry.

I go back Friday to see if there have been 3 days of growth, which will be very telling. She still puts my current miscarriage risk at 30-40%. Needless to say I am worried . . . Anyone else been in this boat? The waiting is excruciating.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this.  I don't have personal experience...some ladies that have measured behind I've seen catch up, others haven't been as fortunate.  If I recall, someone once said more than 5 days behind is concerning?  You're right at 5 so hard to say.  But I am glad you are going back Friday, and you will have a better idea of what's happening before the weekend.  T&Ps that your little bean catches up!

Hey there! I'm sorry you are going through this. It's such a hard process and the waiting and worrying is so difficult too. I was measuring behind on my first scan too. Then went to right on track then ahead. Just got my results from my nt scan and bloodwork show all is ok. I hope that Friday brings you better news. Try to stay positive. Sending big hugs.

Thanks for this. I am just so worried and don't have a good feeling. I am 2 weeks shy of 40 and this is my first and we want two kids badly so all of those anxieties are just piling up one on top of another.

I have measured behind by 4-5 days for every ultrasound.  I was told that the growth between scans is more important than the actual measurement.  At 9 weeks, they felt comfortable not even doing another ultrasound until 20 weeks.

Thanks for this. My OB said the same thing re: growth, but also really wants me to manage my expectations on overall chances.

I was measuring almost a week behind and after the second ultrasound, my RE simply adjusted by due date as it was consistent. That combined with local initial betas, they assume a late implanter. I hope you have the same successful outcome!

I'm so sorry you are going through this.  I thought I had read that measurements, especially at this very early stage, can be off due to human error, and 5 days seems like it could be within the margin of error.

It sounds very positive to me that you could see a heartbeat.  I would try to concentrate on that until your next scan.

T&P to you and your LO.  Please keep us updated.

Thanks all. Today's sonogram showed 3 days of growth, but heartbeat has dropped significantly. From 112 to 78. OB things this is a done deal. We'll check again on Monday but likely D and C on Monday.

Thanks all. As expected there was no heartbeat yesterday and they did the D and C. I am feeling ok. Sad and a little crampy but also ok. I know this is incredibly normal and happens to so many. I will see a fertility specialist (RMA in Manhattan) on Thursday and make a plan. Likely injectibles + IUI or right to IVF with the hope of freezing embryos for baby 2 as well.

Anyone out there been through this sort of thing? Would love to hear your experiences and also when I can expect to be free of the pregnancy hormones and also rid of these 5 useless extra pounds! Would like to start next round back at my fighting weight. Many thanks.

@Knottie01061671 - I am so very sorry for your loss.  I had a miscarriage of twins and D&C before.  It was emotionally exhausting.  I don't recall exactly how long it took to get beta back to zero - but it was really hard to go back to the RE's office again and again to get the bloodwork when the people around me were still in the hopeful stage of their cycles.  It took me 4 months to be emotionally ready to try again.

Take care of yourself and take the time you need to feel that you are in the right place to move forward.  Sending lots of T&P your way.

Knottie01061671 - There used to be a thread on the Miscarriage and Loss board with the title "What I wish I knew post D&C."  I was going to recommend it to you, but unfortunately, the URL I have says, "Post not found."
I can tell you in my experience, it took me 9 weeks post D&C to start menstruating again.  After AF came, I was able to go on BCP in preparation for my 2nd IVF the next month.  It also took several weeks post D&C before my RE would allow me to run again.  This restriction wasn't based on a certain amount of time passing, but rather, on whether she thought my ovaries looked too engorged for running.  She looked at them with an internal U/S before giving me clearance.

I think the 5 lbs are probably bloat, and they should be the first thing to go.

Sending you creepy internet ((hugs)) - Don't forget to allow yourself to cry at any time over anything.
