Silver Nitrate

DD's cord stump fell off before her belly button completely healed, so the pediatrician put some silver nitrate on it. I'm happy with the results- the oozing has stopped and her belly button is no longer sticking out, but the silver is still there. Any one have experience with this? Dr. Google results are full of moms complaining that their babies had bad reactions/chemical burns- and that def didn't happen for us (thank goodness!) but I can't find any info about washing the area vs keeping it dry and continuing the sponge baths. I called the office but bc it's not an emergency, they may not get back to me til next week.

My sons still leaked. I just kept it dry for another week or two before I gave home a full bath.

My baby got this too. My pedi said it'll always be silver/black.

I've given 2 baths and he's 3 weeks. No way to get rid of it.

Ok, so Pedi said as long as ithe belly button is healed (not still oozing) I could take a q-tip and baby oil to wipe away the silver.
