I had my first ultrasound Wednesday and found out we are having a little girl . Yesterday I received a phone call from my doctor letting me know that he found a small cyst on my babies brain and that I will need to go have a level 2 ultrasound done in the following weeks . He reassured me that it is very common and will resolve on its own, everything else looks great and not to worry but I can't help but stress . Has anyone else experienced this ? Thank you so much
I was in the same boat 5 weeks ago! They sent me for a level two and not only were there no cysts to be found but also the irregular heartbeat she had before was no longer there. I don't know if you believe in the power of prayer but I do and that's exactly what we did. As soon as my doctor called me with that news i had a ton of people praying for my little girl and I prayed about it, God gave me peace and she was perfectly healthy and measuring exactly to the day when we went for the level two. God is good and I'm confident your LO will be perfectly healthy praying for peace for you!
Hello, please try not to worry, they usually clear up by about 28 weeks. My son had 2 on 20 week US...both resolved! My daughter had 1 on her 20 week US also resolved. It happens as spinal fluid gets trapped in the choroid plexus as developing. Kinda like a tangled spider web & as the brain continue to develop these usually clear up. I will pray for you and baby too!
The one on our little girl was gone two weeks later when we had our level 2.
My doctor said if you did an US daily on all women from 16-26 weeks you'd find them in everyone (or nearly.) It's just a matter of the day you have your scan. And they are a normal part of development.
If I had done the optional testing at 12 weeks they wouldn't have even mentioned the cysts.
So most likely nothing to worry about if they didn't find anything else.
I know the OP was a few weeks ago but I wanted to share my experience. With my DD, we discovered her CPC at my 20 week anatomy scan. My OB referred me to MFM, where we did genetic counseling and level 2 ultrasounds. By 28 weeks, they had disappeared like expected. This pregnancy, my insurance paid for M21 testing because of DD's soft marker and we had normal results. 18 weeks rolls around and we discovered that DS has bilateral CPC as well. I have not been referred to MFM and am just letting my OB do periodic scans to make sure they go away.
Pregnancy #1- Loss at 4w4d
Pregnancy #2- DD Born September 2011
Pregnancy #3- Loss at 6w3d
Pregnancy #4- BFP 10/11/14- EDD 6/18/15- IT'S A BOY!!
Sorry it's taken me so long for an update . We went in on the 18th for the level two ultrasound and they said everything looked great and they did not see any cysts on her brain like they had at my doctors apt a week prior . She is measuring right on schedule and I was very happy to hear this after stressing for a week worried and expecting the worst . Thank you for all your responses
I know I'm late, but since I'm going through the exact same thing I'd like to put my two cents in. I'm now 18 weeks and last week at my anatomical ultrasound they discovered a CPC on my baby's left hemisphere. As everyone else has mentioned before me, my doctor, too, said it would dissolve on its own. All my blood work has come back fine and they said since this is an isolated finding that I shouldn't worry. ALL I DO IS WORRY!
But I'm hopeful that at my next ultrasound the cyst will be gone.
Fingers crossed and good luck to anyone who is going through the same thing.
Hello, I am also in the same situation as you. Cysts were found, along with a couple issues. Trying hard not to worry, but I'm scared. Did anyone else have cysts along with other issues?
I really wish I would have seen this thread earlier. I found out last week my baby is a girl and she has cysts in her brain. My heart stopped when the doctor called and told me. I have a level 2 ultrasound in six more days. I've been a complete nervous wreck. It is so refreshing to hear of other women who has been through this.
I do my best to stay far, far away from Google. It seems like every time I look something up online, my imagination goes crazy. But I'm feeling a bit more at ease after reading this.
Hello, Just a follow up regarding my situation regarding the Cysts. My baby currently has 3 cysts in his brain - I am 21 weeks pregnant. I went this week for a genetic specialist sonogram. They explained to me that these cysts do not effect the baby at all. Most of the time, they will disappear on their own as baby grows. If they dont, they still wont effect the baby. The only thing is that cysts are "soft markers" for downs or tri 18. I have other "soft markers" on the baby (kidney and heart), so I got the Matera 21 bloodwork - it's 99.1% accurate to pick up if baby has any of those issues. Please dont stress and please dont worry. I was a mess for a week until my appointment, but they eased my mind and I'm sure they will ease your mind too. Best of luck to you!! Please keep me updated!
I just got the same news yesterday when I went in for my 21st week visit to find out the sex and complete some measurements. I was crying my heart out for hours. The ultrasound spotted two CPC (5mm each in size) in our baby's brain. I had the NTS done and some blood work (from the arm, not the tummy), both read fine (the doctor did not go over the exact ratio). I am feeling so stressed and nearly depressed as I wait for my level two scan. Blessing health for our baby.
