Breastfeeding

Pregnant and nursing supply help??

My daughter is 9 months and has never had formula.  I want to make it breast feeding until 12 months. Over the last month, my supply has been decreasing a lot!!!! I used to pump a total of 6-7 oz at work and now I only pump 2 oz.  I've been drinking milk tea and eating cookies... then yesterday, I found out that I am PREGNANT! I'm excited about it!

Anyways... what is going on with my boobs!!?? Should I still be able to breastfeed and what's going on with my supply?

  • there is not much you can do about it, unfortunately. for most women, eventually pregnancy hormones will overtake your nursing hormones and cause a major supply drop. certainly you can keep pumping as long as you're getting enough for it to be worthwhile. make sure you're eating a healthy diet and drinking lots of fluids to keep up with the demands on your body. since your LO is over 6 months you can try to increase the amount of solids she is getting if you are not able to pump as much.

i am pregnant and nursing my 2.5 year old, and i noticed a big drop in supply towards the end of the 1st trimester. i am now 15 weeks and can only express a few drops. DS is still nursing, but the sessions are very short.

here are a couple of articles on nursing while pregnant, if you'd like more info:
